This morning, our Grade 4 students took the stage at Flag for their first LEADS Live Podcast skit. LEADS, Canterbury's character education program, stands for Leadership, Ethics, Advocacy, Dignity, Service.

Throughout the year, Grade 4 skits will kick off each LEADS unit, bringing important lessons about leadership, character, and what it means to make a difference to our community.

This month’s focus is on honor and respect, two essential qualities of a strong leader. Our Grade 4 students are already making a difference as leaders of the Hough Campus by using their voices to inspire others!

Kick off the new school year with a night of soccer, family, and the Canterbury community! Join Canterbury families at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday, September 5, as our hometown Tampa Bay Rowdies take on Brooklyn FC.

Students are invited to a FREE pregame clinic with Rowdies players, where they can learn a little soccer, meet players, and even get autographs! The clinic is ideal for students ages 7 to 14, but younger and older students are welcome to join in, too. No soccer experience is necessary!

Pick your experience: Come for the clinic and stay for the match, or do just one of the two!

Yesterday we honored the Class of 2027 at Senior Investiture, an annual ceremony that marks their entry into their final year at Canterbury.

In his closing speech, Head of Upper School Mr. Abraham Pachikara referenced our faculty summer reading book, The Lighthouse Effect by Steve Pemberton, and noted that as the leaders of our school, each member of the senior class carries a light in our community. Our Hough Campus students are excited to start our 14th year of the One School, One Book reading program today! This year, all students in PK3-Grade 4 and their families will read 8 Class Pets + 1 Squirrel ÷ 1 Dog = Chaos by Vivian Vande Velde. We're looking forward to exploring this novel together with trivia questions and fun, themed activities over the next few weeks.

Our faculty and staff have been hard at work the last two weeks preparing for the new year - lesson planning, organizing, collaborating, even gardening. (Please join us in thanking the Shanks family for helping to beautify the Hough Campus STEAM Garden!)

Last year, Canterbury began a partnership with Joffe Emergency Services, and on Wednesday, their team provided valuable emergency response professional development for our faculty and staff. The training gave our team the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge, build confidence, and prepare for a variety of situations that may arise on campus.
We’re grateful for this continued partnership and the expertise Joffe brings to our school community. Through ongoing training and preparation, Canterbury is committed to fostering a safe, informed, and prepared environment for our students and staff!

What does it mean to be a lighthouse for others?

Monday, our faculty and staff had the opportunity to discuss on our summer reading, The Lighthouse Effect. Through small group conversations and a special meeting with author and speaker Steve Pemberton, we reflected on the power each of us has to positively impact the people around us.

As we embrace this year’s chapel theme, “Be a Blessing,” The Lighthouse Effect reminds us of just how much acts of kindness and encouragement can make a difference in the lives of our students and community.
