The Academy Prep family joins our community in mourning the passing of Brian West.

As Publix’s longtime Community Relations Manager, Brian’s dedication and generosity touched countless lives across our region. A tireless advocate for philanthropy, his unwavering commitment to strengthening communities and expanding opportunities for young people leaves a legacy that will be felt for generations.

Through Brian’s leadership, Publix became an instrumental partner in Academy Prep’s mission, providing steadfast support to our campuses in Lakeland, Tampa, and St. Petersburg, helping open doors of opportunity for deserving students and families across Central Florida. We are deeply grateful for the lasting impact he had on our organization and on the many nonprofits fortunate enough to benefit from his vision and compassion.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Brian’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Publix family during this difficult time.

May his memory continue to inspire acts of kindness, service, and generosity throughout our community.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. It stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the ongoing pursuit of liberty and justice.

Today, we honor the significance of this historic day by reflecting on our nation’s past, celebrating the rich contributions of the Black community, and reaffirming our commitment to education, opportunity, and a brighter future for all.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Juneteenth as we celebrate freedom, progress, and the power of community.

Our graduating scholars were honored in an inspirational ceremony held at DeSeta Hall, hosted by our longtime high school partner, Admiral Farragut Academy. The celebration brought together faculty, staff, trustees, mentors, alumni, and families to reflect on the growth, achievements, and bright futures of our scholars.

FUTURE SPARTAN! Center for Advanced Technologies at Lakewood High School

We are excited to announce 8th grade scholar Christopher has been accepted to attend the Center for Advanced Technologies at Lakewood High School this fall!

Lakewood High School CAT students take courses in robotics, artificial intelligence, computer programming, content creation, and much more. Students who graduate from the CAT program are prepared for careers in engineering, architecture, medicine, multimedia technology/production, scientific research, computer science, and information technologies. The program provides real-world experiences through partnerships, mentorships and apprentice opportunities with community businesses.

Congratulations Christopher! We are confident that you will continue down a path of excellence and find success in this high quality, application-based learning opportunity in a state-of-the-art, supportive environment.
