This is an email from my daughter. If anyone has any way/time/interest in doing this, please let me know and I'll get you in touch. Thanks! Becky Wilson

Hello,

I am looking to tap into your vast network of socially minded friends. We have a 6th grade student who needs a mentor with a focus on reading. Do you know of anyone who would be willing to connect 1-3 times per week with her on campus at Canterbury?

She had a tough year with bullying in 5th grade and needs a fresh start academically and emotionally. Although it's going to be a stretch we are looking for ways to continue supporting her here.

Thanks,
Carrie

Check out Sami Griffin's husband! I TRUST him!

Our PSA on the current vaccine. In the most transparent process in history, I firmly believe in the first two vaccines hitting the market. FDA will produce Fact Sheets after the EUA is issued, but these safe and effective vaccines are the key to ending this pandemic and getting life back to normal over the next months. Data shows very few side effects, but much like flu shots some folks might experience what is known as reactogenicity, mild short lasting symptoms. This is rare but seems to be more in younger folks. Feel free to visit our COVID page at Pharmerica.com Lots of resources for you.

A safe, effective, and widely available COVID-19 vaccine is central to a return to normal life. PharMerica Chief Pharmacy Officer TJ Griffin served on Operation Warp Speed and reassures the long-term industry on the rigorously tested vaccines that will soon be available. I know a great many of us got our undergraduate and/or graduate degrees from USF College of Education. :-( It looks as though the graduate programs might be spared?

Message from the Pinellas Co Teachers Assoc President…and a request

I am sure many of you have heard the inexplicable announcement from Governor DeSantis accompanied by the Emergency Order issued by Commissioner of Education Corcoran regarding the opening of schools this fall. Rational minds cannot understand why such an order would be given when Florida is currently one of the epicenters of this national crisis of COVID-19 with the numbers of cases reaching astronomical, and sometimes record-breaking heights. Most of the newest data dispels the myth that children are not susceptible to this virus, and they can be as infectious as any adult. Putting students and educators at risk during this time is irresponsible, to say the least.

FEA President, Fed Ingram, has appeared on many state and national media outlets today and he will be interviewed on Chris Cuomo’s show on CNN at 9pm this evening. I know I will be watching as the nation is made aware of the strong-arm tactics Florida’s Governor is using to force districts to make the wrong decision for our children and those who dedicate their lives to teaching them.

PCTA is deep into negotiations with the district’s team regarding the opening of schools, and we will continue to be until the very last minute, and beyond. We will be discussing issues as they arise well into August, September and October. But I have two (2) requests of you:

I am asking that every one of you write, email or call the Governor directly to let him know how outraged you feel about his announcement. Contact information can be found below.

I am also attaching a letter I have written to the School Board, who will be making the final decision in all of this. If you are willing to stand with me and include your signature along with mine, please let me know as soon as possible. Email me directly at [email protected] and tell me only, “Yes! I will stand with you. Include my signature!” No email is needed to tell me “no.” I would like to send this letter to the board before the end of this week, so please email quickly. We are PCTA. We will stand together to fight this!

In Solidarity,

Nancy Velardi

A beautiful video from Anna Ruth Cianci's family.

Remembering Anna Ruth Cianci A tribute to Anna Ruth Cianci, March 16, 1948 - May 26, 2020. She will be missed terribly.

Sad, sad news shared from Marty.

Hi Becky, It’s with a heavy heart that I share Anna Ruth Cianci died at 5:15am this morning after suffering a massive stroke yesterday. They had discovered recently a blood clot pulmonary but close to her heart. I’m heartsick, but the Lord in his grand love and mercy scooped her up and spared her from any suffering. May she rest in eternal peace. Will you post in the Euclid page? Thanks ❤️🙏

This makes me terribly sad. Our Eleanor Kiney has passed away. Condolences can be shared at: www.AndersonMcQueen dot com. (You can put a note the family will see there.)

KINEY, Sarah Eleanor 80, died peacefully on May 4, 2020, with her husband and daughters by her side. She was born June 9, 1939, in Blowing Rock, NC, to the late Lloyd and Alma (Benfield) Robbins. A graduate of Blowing Rock High School, she went on to attend Mars Hill College and Milligan College. Eleanor, as she was known, loved music. She served several churches in Blowing Rock and Charlotte, NC as organist. She also played the piano, handbells, and sang in the church choir. While on a cruise to the Bahamas with some girlfriends, she met her future husband. Their long distance relationship eventually led her to St. Petersburg, Florida and their marriage in November of 1965. She was a faithful member of North East Park Baptist church for over 50 years. She taught graded choirs and pre-school Sunday school classes for many of those years. Her heart for missions also inspired her to work with Girls in Action and Child Evangelism Fellowship, teaching children about Jesus and world missions. In her retirement years, she partnered with her husband to serve Operation Christmas Child, speaking in local area churches and supervising a shoebox collection center for over 10 years. Eleanor worked at the St. Petersburg City Hall, North Shore Elementary School as a paraprofessional, and at Euclid Student Services for the Pinellas County School System. Her life was marked by service to others. She faithfully served her family and her church. She was hospitable and frequently opened her home to others. She enjoyed being part of the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Robbins Taylor, Josephine Robbins Cessna, Alice Robbins Newton; brother, Jack Robbins; and nieces, Donna Cessna and Janey Robbins Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Terrence F. Kiney; her daughters, Patricia (Butch) Ross and Sarah (Timothy) Fary; and four grandchildren, Malcolm, Madeline, Patrick, and Eleanor "Ella". She was also loved by her nephews and nieces, Charles Cessna, Karyn (Kiney) Maughon, Allison Richter, Jana Moody, and Richard Coffey and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Operation Christmas Child at Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
