Just turned 10 .crowley.9 now playing for After popping 3 consecutive 66’s on the we worked on off speed pitches. As a starter it’s pretty easy to go through the lineup once and stick with the heat, it’s in the 4th, 5th, and 6th when we’re starting to fatigue and lose a few ticks on the fastball we have to rely on the secondary stuff. 2nd and 3rd time threw the lineup the batters start to pick up our timing a little better on the gas, that’s when we rely more on the junk to keep them off balance right when they start to get a little more comfortable 😎

My athletes ask me all the time, how were you so successful throwing only 2 pitches your whole career. I threw a 2 seam that everybody called a sinker and a slider that people would call a sweeper or frisbee. Here’s how, the answer is command! I threw 417.33 innings in college/pro ball and had 93 walks. That means I walked a guy just under every 5 innings, I could record 14 outs on average before I gave up a free pass. Before you start throwing 4-5 pitches have elite command with 2. Be able to throw those 2 into a certain spot whenever you need and tunnel them off each other. My philosophy went like this, win the 0-0, win the 1-1, and hopefully it doesn’t come to this but win the 3-2 if it does. Live low, read swings early and live on the corners. I knew if I could avoid the 11 inches in the middle and paint the 3 inches on either side of the dish with 2 pitches I would be fine. Not too many hitters can rake both sides of the dish, especially if you can keep them off balance. Be consistent and remember each pitch has a purpose. Set a plan in your head every time you’re getting a sign and execute. Have some feel and trust your stuff, you’ll be surprised by your results
