To be witnessed in your healing is a powerful, visceral experience.
To no longer be shackled down by your past shame, blame, or guilt...
and be guided and held by someone who can not only see your pain but can also see themselves in you - an ‘empathetic witness’.
Dropping the judgements of the past because we all deserve healing.
And none of us have to do it alone.
Can you imagine a world where everyone has the capacity to be an empathetic leader, being able to in any moment drop in and hold a safe space, a container of refuge?
We believe in that world 🌍
If you want to be a part ot building that world, comment the word “REFUGE” in the comments.
We need YOU.
The world needs YOU 🫂

🫂This photo represents the importance of Discovery Inquiry Sessions, which are sessions we teach our Leaders to help identify the different levels of trauma - primary, secondary, and tertiary - and where the client may fall within those levels.
Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary trauma are different levels of psychological distress experienced by individuals who have been exposed to traumatic events.
🙅🏽♂️Primary trauma refers to the direct experience of a distressing event, such as natural disasters, accidents, or violence, which can lead to immediate emotional and physical consequences.
🚒⚕️🚔Secondary trauma refers to the emotional impact experienced by individuals who indirectly witness or hear about traumatic events, often through close relationships or professional involvement with those directly affected.
- This includes healthcare workers, first responders, or family members of victims.
- an example of this can also be the original movie ‘Jaws’ and how it has created a worldwide fear of Great White shark attacks
(we’re more likely to drown or be struck by lightning but [most] of you are not afraid of that, are ya?)
🧬 Tertiary trauma pertains to the collective emotional and psychological effects experienced by communities or groups in response to the prolonged exposure to primary and secondary trauma.
- It can lead to a sense of helplessness, increased stress, and a diminished ability to cope with further challenges.
Recognizing the different levels of trauma is crucial for providing appropriate support and interventions to those affected, promoting healing, and building resilience in individuals and communities.
These Discovery Inquiry Sessions are vital to understanding how we can best support a potential client we desire to work with, and whether or not we would be a good fit for each other.
Additionally, we want to make sure we have additional resources to further support them when necessary.

To feel held and fully supported by a human is one of the greatest gifts we can give someone.
When we act like we have it together, all the time, it doesn't allow for others to nurture us, which is innate to human beings.
That desire to help and support a fellow human being lives within us all.
Within Refuge Leadership Academy, we guide our practitioners to the understanding that sometimes people just need to be held.
(However, consent from the individual is always given prior to any form of touch being applied)
