☕ Spotlight on Success in Wakulla County! 🌟

Project 10: Transition Education Network is excited to highlight the incredible work happening through the Legacy Café at Wakulla County School District — a school-based enterprise supporting students in 18–22 deferment programming.

The Legacy Café provides students with meaningful, hands-on opportunities to build employment and independent living skills through authentic workplace experiences. From preparing specialty coffee drinks to managing tasks, teamwork, and customer service, students are gaining valuable skills that support successful postsecondary outcomes.

Wakulla’s program is also receiving technical assistance and support to continue enhancing opportunities for students with disabilities through high-quality transition programming.

We love seeing innovative programs that help students strengthen confidence, independence, and career readiness while creating connections within their school and community. Great work, Wakulla County! 👏

📣 Project 10 is excited to highlight a valuable secondary transition planning resources: the Transition Assessment Chart!

Transition assessments play a critical role in helping IEP teams gather meaningful information about a student’s strengths, preferences, interests, and needs as they prepare for life after high school.

Assessment data help support the development of measurable postsecondary goals related to education/training, employment/career, and independent living (as appropriate). This information also helps teams identify transition service needs and develop meaningful annual IEP goals that support each student’s future success.

Whether you are new to transition planning or looking to strengthen your current practices, this resource can help guide thoughtful, student-centered planning conversations.

What’s the “Hidden Curriculum” of Secondary Transition?

It’s the life skills students don’t always learn in a textbook.

Things like:

🚌 Navigating public transportation
📧 Writing a professional email
💰 Managing a personal budget
💬 Explaining disability and accommodations to an employer

These soft skills play a vital role in helping students successfully transition to adulthood.

Project 10 shares tools and resources to help families and educators support students in building these important skills. 🌟You can find many Project 10 resources and tools by viewing our padlet here: https://padlet.com/dphillips52/project-10-publications-fek107ms8blizuqv
