TO ALL MY TRACK ATHLETES:

Having a fast start doesn’t necessarily means it’s a good start, that just means you have a fast reaction. The start of the race should be set up for you to continue to accelerate as you approach your top end speed. Here two things you want to keep in while developing your start

1. Push
- You want to make sure the your utilizing your strength correctly and pushing powerful in all the right angles

2. Transition
- After every step you must have a slow increase in your upper body and shins to smoothly transition into a vertical position as you approach max velocity

Explosiveness off the ground is key when it comes to sprinting. If you’re not explosive and powerful off the ground you won’t run fast‼️

Speed is a skill you have to perfect, but to do so you need patience and consistency because you’re not going to get fast over night, it’s a whole process you have to go through and there’s no shortcuts!!!

You must be aggressive and explosive from the start so that you can set your self up to have a great acceleration phase which will allow you to smoothly transition into your top end speed ‼️
Cues:
- Drive your hips through
- Push down and back
- Be aggressive with your arms
- Control your breathing

This drill is called walking A-March. This is a drill I like to do before a nice speed workout, while doing drill it’s primary focus is to have good upright posture up top and good mechanics through out the body. As you can see here I have good arms action and my knees is coming up to hip level Landing directly under my center of mass.

Cues:
- Keep toes dorsiflex
- Triple flexion in the hip, knee, and ankle
- Good running motion up top

During the drive phase your first few steps should be spent more on the ground so that you can create a lot of force to have a great acceleration phase which will allow you to sprint at a higher velocity.

Cues:

1️⃣. Load the base from the start

2️⃣. Power your hips through from the first step

3️⃣. Push down and back to project yourself forward
