New Tax Scam Targeting Tax Professionals In advance of the tax deadline, the Internal Revenue Service today warned tax professionals of a new emerging scam in which cybercriminals obtain remote control of preparers’ computer systems, complete and file client tax returns and redirect refunds to thieves’ accounts.

IRS is eyeing tip income, out of concern that it is significantly underreported. It will do a nationwide survey of consumer tipping practices in a variety of industries such as casinos, restaurants, hotels, hair salons and taxis. It hopes that the results will help agents check whether workers in these industries are reporting all their tips.
