The Saint Paul Seminary

On behalf of The Saint Paul Seminary, Father Joseph Taphorn, rector, congratulates Deacon Michael McGinty on his appointment as the next Director of Catholic Education and Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Deacon McGinty was ordained in 2023 after completing his formation at our Institute for Diaconate Formation. He also completed the Pillars Program with The Saint Paul Seminary’s Catechetical Institute as a member of the Class of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.

We know he will be a great gift to our Archdiocese!

Last Friday, prior to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis ordinations, The Saint Paul Seminary hosted a special Mass celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Hebda, joined by Bishop Michael Izen, Father Mark Pavlak, and Monsignor Stephen Gideon, for the blessing of the chalices and patens. Each chalice was personally chosen by the man who now carries it into his priesthood and carries with it its own unique story.

Of the six chalices blessed that day, four belonged to the men formed here at The Saint Paul Seminary.

The Saint Paul Seminary continues to celebrate the ordinations of Fathers Alexander Hall, Dominic Miller, Peter Romens, and Sebastian Spencer.

These four newly ordained priests are among 12 Saint Paul Seminary men being ordained to the priesthood in 2026. Please join us in praying for these newly ordained priests and for those approaching ordination.

We honor newly ordained priests formed at The Saint Paul Seminary: Father Alexander Hall, Father Dominic Miller, Father Peter Romens, and Father Sebastian Spencer.

Ordinations took place at the Cathedral of Saint Paul on Saturday, May 30 with two men formed at the North American College in Rome. These new priest were ordained by Archbishop Bernard Hebda with Bishops Izen, Kenney, and Pates and Father Joseph Taphorn, rector, among the concelebrants of the archdiocesan presbyter.

On the feast of Pentecost, we gathered in thanksgiving to celebrate this year’s graduates of The Saint Paul Seminary.

Surrounded by faculty, family, and friends, graduates were honored with a special Graduation Mass ahead of commencement at the .

As the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Church on Pentecost, we pray these graduates go forth with wisdom and hearts ready to serve Christ and His Church.

This Sunday afternoon, May 17th, experience the beauty of The Saint Paul Seminary Choir singing at Holy Mass with the St. Thomas Liturgical Choir in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas at 3 p.m. Directed by Dr. Elena Bird Zolnick. Light reception to follow. This Mass fulfills the Sunday obligation. We hope you will join us.

We honor newly ordained transitional deacons formed at The Saint Paul Seminary: Deacon Brother José Ignacio Rodríguez, PES and Deacon Brother Evan Steeves, PES.

Ordinations took place at the Church of Saint Mark in Saint Paul on Saturday, May 9 with the entire seminary in attendance. They were ordained by Bishop Michael Izen with Archbishop Hebda, Bishop Pates, Bishop Kenney, Father Taphorn, rector, Father Carl, vice-rector, and Father Humberto Palamino, superior general of Pro Ecclesia Sancta concelebrating Mass.

On the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, we ask for her protection for our seminarians, deacons, and lay students as they pursue God’s will for their lives.
