Adams Spanish Immersion is an elementary school that provides children with an opportunity to be fluent in a second language. Adams' students are surrounded by Spanish all day long and learn to speak and comprehend the language much as a child learns to speak for the first time. Our School is a place where families and staff value the importance of language and the opportunities that are gained by

Please see the message below from the Adams PTO Chair, shared in partnership with the Adams Elementary Parents & Friends Immigration Committee regarding support for members of our school community:

Recent events in Minnesota have placed tremendous strain on many members of the Adams community. Over the past few weeks, the Adams Elementary Parents & Friends Immigration Committee has learned of families in need of assistance with rent and other bills. The increased presence of ICE in our state has impacted people's safety and ability to work. The committee is raising money to support these valued members of our community.

Tonight, a six year old child will be put to bed wondering where their mother is. In the wake of senseless violence, a child is left carrying questions no child should have to ask.

Many of you have heard the news coming out of Minneapolis. To those of you I spoke with on the playground today, I felt the same emotions you shared so openly and honestly. Anger. Sadness. Frustration. Shock. Grief. The weight of senseless, active violence that once again feels far too close to home.

I want to name that. I want to sit in that truth with you.

I also want to acknowledge something else that is very real for our Adams community. With the increased ICE presence in Saint Paul, many families are carrying fear, uncertainty, and in some cases deep terror. That fear does not disappear when children walk through the school doors. It follows families into classrooms, onto playgrounds, and back into homes at night.

I have said this before and I will say it again. This is about people. This is not about politics. Words can feel hollow in moments like these. Still, it matters to say that you are not alone. We see you. We hear you. And we are actively working to support you in ways that are tangible, thoughtful, and rooted in care.

There is a group of parents in this community (and you know who you are) who show up every single day to make sure our kids and our Adams community feel safe, protected, and loved both in school and beyond it. Your quiet work matters more than you know.
To the families carrying fear tonight, to the children asking questions adults struggle to answer, and to the parents holding it together for everyone else, please know this community stands with you. We will continue to lead with compassion, to protect our people, and to choose humanity even when the world feels heavy.

We are sitting in this tension with you. We are holding space for grief, fear, and unanswered questions, while continuing to show up for one another with care and resolve. In moments like this, community matters more than ever, and Adams remains a place where people come first.

With you,

Earl Milton

Please see this urgent message from the Adams PTO Chair, shared in partnership with the Adams Immigration Committee, regarding support for members of our school community.

Last spring, our community raised over $10,000 to support Adams educators facing deportation.

That financial support has helped keep them in the country for now. However, they continue to face urgent legal needs, with attorney fees costing up to $500 per hour.

Our impact has been substantial. Four Adams educators who were facing deportation have been deeply grateful and heartened by our community’s support. We have disbursed over $10,000 evenly among them, funding critical legal work that halted their deportations.

Their situations remain temporary and precarious. Ongoing legal steps still require attorney support at rates of up to $500 per hour. Since our initial fundraising, one educator has left Adams and is pursuing permanent residency through a Green Card. Funds raised now are being distributed evenly among the remaining three educators and a new Adams educator whose family is facing a serious immigration crisis.

This is about far more than avoiding deportation. One educator has been unable to secure tourist visas for her children, whom she has not seen in three years. Another educator’s stepfather was recently detained by ICE after his car broke down on the way to dialysis. Each family lives with the daily trauma of knowing the lives they have worked so hard to build could be taken away at any moment.

That fear ripples through their families, their students, and our entire Adams community.

While we have helped our educators make meaningful legal progress and celebrate important victories, fear remains part of their daily reality. They fear trips to the grocery store, the airport, their churches, their children’s schools, and even their workplace at Adams. Still, they continue to show up for our students and our community every day.

Let us keep showing up for them.

I've been trying to find the right words all day, but they can feel hollow in times like these. I'm writing this post not as the PTO chair, but as a father, someone who can't help but see my own kids in the faces of those affected this morning.

We've all heard the heartbreaking news out of Minneapolis today, where a sacred place of worship and learning was the site of a tragedy. Families who began their day in prayer and community are now carrying unimaginable grief.

As parents, we send our children out each day trusting they will be safe, cared for, and loved. Today is a painful reminder of how fragile that trust can feel.
So tonight, let's hold our kids a little tighter. Give them an extra scoop of ice cream, read them an extra bedtime story, and remind them how deeply loved they are.

Let's also keep the impacted families in our hearts, offering compassion, kindness, and care as they navigate a path no family should ever have to walk.

Together in care and compassion,
Earl Milton
PTO Chair
