Did you know I photographed this? I made every part of it — from the red rubies water chestnuts to the cendol noodles, and even dyed all the pearls into rainbow colors. My inspiration was to create a large fine art print for my own kitchen wall.

Something I’ve been working on behind the scenes is the graphic design and marketing for the 2025 Eau Claire Hmong New Year.

If you’ve seen the colorful flyers floating around, that’s part of what I’ve been creating. It feels good to bring new energy into this celebration after Covid put everything on pause. Just last year, the committee restarted at a brand-new location and welcomed over 4,000 people back together.

This year’s committee feels especially fresh and promising. It’s led by Cheng Cha (owner/partner of Thai Orchid) and supported by a group of dedicated professionals—most of us volunteering our time to make this year’s celebration meaningful.

I’m beyond thrilled to introduce Hlub, a handmade Hmong paper doll designed to celebrate identity, creativity, and culture. She’s finally here — and now available to order online!

✨ The Spark of an Idea ✨
The idea for a Hmong paper doll came to me years ago during a visit to a local museum. After a full day of wandering through inspiring exhibits, I stopped by the gift shop. I browsed through shelves of thoughtfully curated treasures—local jewelry, art books, puzzles, games, and more.

But something was missing.

In a city with a vibrant Hmong community, I couldn’t find anything fun, meaningful, or collectible that reflected Hmong culture — something both kids and adults could relate to and enjoy. That’s when the idea for a Hmong paper doll was born.

And now, after years of dreaming and creating — Hlub is here.
