We are committed to promoting foreign language study on campus. We offer studies in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Classics (Greek and Latin), French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. We hope to expand the outlook and interests of students in other cultures as well as to foster understanding and tolerance of all peoples

A warm Tommie welcome to our 2026-2027 Fulbright Teaching Assistants! 💜

From left to right in the photo, Sabrina Bouyagui from France, Irina Cervi from Argentina, and Silvana Strieder from Austria.

Our FLTAs bring their language and cultural knowledge to the classroom while taking courses at St. Thomas as part of their own academic journey. Throughout their time here, they’ll share their cultures, experiences, and perspectives with our community, encouraging students to discover new cultures, consider studying abroad, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our dear colleague and friend, Dr. Jane Telford Tar.

Jane devoted her life to teaching, inspiring students, and sharing her love of language and culture. She was a treasured member of our University of St. Thomas community, and those of us who had the privilege of working alongside her will remember her warmth, generosity, intelligence, and wonderful sense of humor.

Jane’s impact on her students, colleagues, and friends will continue to live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jane’s family, friends, and all who loved her.
