The Center for Accessibility Resources assists students with acquiring necessary accomodations to ensure an equal educational opportunity.

The Center for Accessibility Resources ensures that all programs, services, and activities at Metropolitan State University are accessible. 📣 Happy ADA Anniversary (and a Gentle Fall Semester Reality Check)! 📣

This Sunday, July 26, we celebrate the 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—a landmark civil rights law signed on July 26, 1990, that continues to advance access, inclusion, and opportunity for people with disabilities.

As we celebrate how far we've come, we're also looking ahead. 🍂 The fall semester will be here before we know it.

At the Center for Accessibility Resources, we understand that time doesn't move the same way for everyone. We know about "Crip Time"—the reality that navigating disability, health conditions, caregiving responsibilities, work, school, and everyday life can require flexibility and planning that the traditional calendar doesn't always acknowledge.

So consider this your friendly, judgment-free reminder:
✅ If you think you may need accommodations this fall
✅ If you're a returning student who wants to review your accommodations
✅ If you'd like to meet with a CAR Access Consultant
✅ If you have questions about accessibility, disability, or inclusion

Now is a great time to reach out. It is also a great time to be sure you are registered for classes before they fill up.

Future You will probably appreciate not trying to squeeze in one more appointment when your physical, cognitive, and emotional bandwidth is already operating on emergency backup generators. 😉

We're here to help make the process as smooth as possible—and we'd love to connect before the semester whirlwind begins.

Happy ADA Anniversary! Let's celebrate progress, continue the work of creating access, and remember that access starts with planning ahead when we can.

Happy Disability Pride Month from the Center for Accessibility Resources!

This July, we celebrate the rich diversity of the disability community and the countless ways disabled people contribute to our campus, our communities, and our world.

Disability is a natural part of the human experience. It intersects with every culture, race, gender, age, socioeconomic background, and field of study. The disability community is one of the largest and most diverse communities in the world, bringing unique perspectives, talents, creativity, resilience, leadership, innovation, and expertise that strengthen our collective learning and growth.
At the Center for Accessibility Resources, we do not view disability as a deficit to be fixed. Instead, we recognize that many of the challenges disabled people encounter are created by barriers in our physical environments, policies, technologies, and attitudes. Removing those barriers benefits everyone and helps create a university where all students can fully participate, learn, and thrive.
Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate disability culture, honor the ongoing fight for access and equity, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive campus. We are proud of the disabled students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members who help make Metropolitan State University a stronger, more vibrant place.

This month—and every month—we celebrate disability pride, disability identity, and disability justice.

This semester started back in January… and somehow lasted approximately a decade. If you’re in finals mode right now: we see you. 🫶

As you power through exams, papers, and projects, remember to take care of yourself—drink water, get some rest, take a break when you can, and breathe. You don’t have to earn exhaustion to earn success. 💛

Summer is so close we can almost taste it 😎🌴
And we’re especially excited to celebrate with many of you at Commencement on May 4th 🎓🎉

You’ve got this—and CAR is always cheering you on!
