Last spring, the Southern Plains Education Co-op received a membership engagement grant from GSU. They used the funds to host a clean up day at a local park. Members put in a couple hours of work and then gathered for lunch. The group was able to discuss new strategies to engage their members and spread the word about the work that their local is doing.

Back in May, when school was wrapping up for the year, Red Rock Central received a membership engagement grant. After the event, the local president wrote, “The lunch provided a valuable opportunity for members to reconnect, receive timely updates from leadership, and feel recognized for their contributions during the school year. Many thanks to Great Southwest United for a much appreciated respite from what has been a trying year for us as a group.”

Three delegates from Education Minnesota Worthington had the privilege to represent GSU at the AFT Conference in Washington DC in July. They were able to plunge into the world of understanding resolutions, learning proper parliamentary procedure, and see how every person in a union gets a voice.

The delegates write, “We are thankful for this opportunity to broaden our union knowledge and build connections with members in our state and national affiliate.”
