The Wallin case study explores how an effort that began with 20 scholarships at one Minnesota high school grew into a comprehensive model of financial aid, personalized advising, career development, and partnership.

Summer Orientation gave each scholar a chance to meet their advisor, learn about the Wallin model, and begin building their support network. These four days were all about setting up the foundation for success, and we’re proud to support Scholars as they begin their journey with Wallin.

Scholar Night brought everyone together in the best way. Scholars met their donors, meaningful conversations sparked new connections, and our shared purpose filled the room. A big thank you to Ted and Kathy Truscott and Columbia Threadneedle for your support. A big thank you as well to our speakers: Mohamed Sallam, our CEO, Thomas Toley, alumni board member, and Lucy Mariana Martínez Port, a Wallin Scholar, for sharing your insight. This night reminded us why we do this work together.

Students carry more than what we can always see. Through every twist and turn of college, Wallin advisors stay close, offering care, guidance, and connection. While scholarships help remove the financial barriers that can stand in the way. As June 30 approaches, we’re reflecting on the support it takes to help scholars keep going and the community that makes that support possible.

At this year’s Scholar Night, we invited students to share their dreams and aspirations as they begin their college journey. From helping their communities to driving change in their fields, these scholars are already shaping the impact they want to make. We are inspired by their aspirations and proud to stand with them on their path ahead.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we’re celebrating stories that move communities forward.

Sunisa Lee made history as the first Hmong American Olympic gold medalist, and her story began right here in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her success is a powerful reminder that representation matters, especially for students who deserve to see their identities, cultures, and communities reflected in the possibilities ahead.
