Congratulations to Dr. Laura Bruner, '07 DVM, who has earned the 2026 Allen D. Leman Science in Practice Award 👏
The award, presented by the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine Swine Group, recognizes swine practitioners who use science to solve critical health and production problems for pork producers. Bruner will receive her award this September at the annual Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, the industry’s premier health and production management conference.

For some veterinary students, summer is a time to trade the lecture hall for the lab bench 🥼🧪 CVM's 2026 Veterinary Summer Scholars officially kicked off their program last week, welcoming student researchers dedicated to advancing the future of animal and human health! Over the next 12 weeks, these scholars will lead original research projects, working side-by-side with faculty mentors to tackle some of the most complex challenges in animal health and disease.

🦟 For nearly two decades, Dr. Peter Larsen and a team of UMN researchers and graduate students from the Universitiy of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS) have been setting out research trips trekking through the intense humidity of Borneo with a mission to track the transmission of the virus, ensuring that while dengue moves through the forest and around the globe, the skills to combat it are being passed to a new generation of researchers in both hemispheres.
Today, after five research trips from the US to Malaysia, the relationship between the universities has blossomed into a full-circle training program.

New campus center to spark major transformation of the St. Paul campus ✨
The St. Paul campus serves as a destination for thousands of clients and animal patients who come from around the state and nation, seeking specialized care at the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Medical Center. “The campus center will be a welcome space for the clients we serve through our Veterinary Medical Center, which manages more than 35,000 patient visits annually,” says Laura Molgaard, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. “Having accessible amenities nearby is essential, especially for what can often be long and stressful waits while their animals undergo diagnostic testing, procedures or treatments.”

Happy International Museum Day 🏛️ 🦴🐾
Groups of College of Veterinary Medicine community members recently gathered in the Minnesota Veterinary History Museum’s anatomy collection for an event where the specimens weren’t just learning aids for a lesson—they were inspirations for art.
The museum hosted a series of printmaking workshops in April, inviting participants to create black-and-white prints reminiscent of those found in historical anatomy books with the help of a printmaking press operated by local artist Stuart Loughridge.

Congratulations to all graduates recognized at annual Honoring Ceremony hosted by the University’s Center of American Indian and Minority Health, including CVM’s Traelene Fallis!
In a special ceremony held during the semester’s end at the University of Minnesota, Native American graduates of health sciences schools were honored for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to advancing health equity in Indigenous communities.
