You might think that a post about our Mission and Culture Fellows program should show our future Catholic school educators in the classroom! But one of the distinctive features of this alternative pathway program is formation of the mind AND heart.

After four days of teacher preparation on campus, our Fellows spent a day together touring the Paul, enjoying a beverage at , and spending a day on the lake.

Now they are in their classrooms at , , and for a 10-month immersion into Catholic education. They are ready!

Before summer turns to fall, here is a glimpse of our graduate course offered in Rome in July.

For the second time, Catholic Studies offered a unique summer study abroad experience for our master's level students. For 10 days in July, MA candidates — along with Graduate Program Director Billy Junker and Fr. Austin Litke, ‘04, OP — walked ancient Roman roads, descended into catacombs, stood beneath Renaissance frescoes, and learned how Christians adopted, reinterpreted, and transformed their pagan cultural inheritance.

Yes, it was hot! But, more importantly, it was real, heavenly, intellectually serious, refreshing, beautiful, shared, profound, life giving, and breathtaking.

And another course WILL be offered again in the summer of 2028!

The National Catholic Register recently featured Dr. John Boyle in a story on renewed interest in Nobel Prize-winning author Sigrid Undset after the opening of her canonization cause.

“Undset has frustrated us with a portrait of life that we feel is true — we just wish it wasn’t true — and then shows us what it might look like to live that life well in the struggle, in the limitations, to use Pope Leo’s language,” he said.
