In the wake of the ongoing occupation of ICE agents and their violent escalation tactics, the people of MN are rising up.

As our streets fill with grief and outrage, Iโ€™m holding close the teachings of the ancestors, artists, authors who help me see beyond the ashes of empire toward a flourishing future rooted in justice, dignity, and collective liberation.

James Baldwin, fierce writer and advocate for racial justice, reminded us that to be relatively conscious in America as a Black man is to be enraged all the time. But Baldwin also showed us how to harness that fire to burn away the systems that dehumanize us and to light a brighter, more hopeful path forward.

Malcolm X, revolutionary Black leader and human rights activist, warned us to be wary of the news because it will have us loving the oppressor and hating the oppressed. Yet he also taught that we will use any means necessary to create a world of human dignity for all.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., beloved civil rights leader and moral visionary, said it is our moral obligation to civilly disobey unjust laws and that those of us who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war.

Miriam Kaba, abolitionist and organizer, teaches us that hope is a discipline, that we must practice it boldly, daily, even when the world around us tries to crush our spirit.

Audre Lorde, poet and activist, showed us that self-care is not self-indulgence, but self-preservationโ€”and that preserving ourselves in times of struggle is an act of political warfare.

Alice Walker, novelist and cultural critic, reminds us that the most common way people give up their power is by thinking we donโ€™t have any in. The power of the people is greater than the people in power.

Ella Baker, grassroots organizer and movement strategist, taught that โ€œwe who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes.โ€ She organized communities to work together, centered collective leadership, and helped build movements that knew freedom was not individual but interdependent.

Assata Shakur, revolutionary freedom fighter, said โ€œwe have nothing to lose but our chains.โ€ She showed us how to turn resistance into persistence, how to live free and, if necessary, die free.

Toni Cade Bambara, writer and radical cultural worker, said โ€œas culture workers who belong to an oppressed people, our work is to make revolution irresistible.โ€

This is the work being done here in Minnesota and beyond.

We express our rage and grief and hope.
We build networks of solidarity, community care, and mutual aid.
We create new possibilities with a deep-rooted love that is stronger than fear.

WE RISE HIGHER TOGETHER.

We champion the protection and empowerment of diverse populations, cultures, and abilities. We believe in upholding the fundamental freedoms of religion, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We unite with communities of color and our allies, acknowledging that diverse perspectives, cultures, and abilities are crucial to the global community's long-term sustainability. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words resonate deeply: "We must live together as brothers [sisters] or perish together as fools." Our guiding principle is to pray for love and peace to flourish in every heart, especially those who have not yet experienced its transformative power.
