The village showed up, locked arms, and set the standard for the year ahead! 🖤✨

This past Saturday, August 29th, we officially kicked off the school year with our annual All Cohort Orientation, welcoming the brilliant men of our 2026–2027 Black Men Teach Fellow Cohort!

From high school and college fellows preparing for future classrooms to teaching fellows stepping up to lead elementary rooms across the Twin Cities, this room was filled with purpose, power, and undeniable joy.

Football, family, and community magic! 🏈💜✨

We had an absolute blast at the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp! The Black Men Teach crew brought the energy with interactive games, plenty of laughs, and meaningful conversations with families, students, and fans from all across our community.

At BMT, we believe that education and community engagement should be grounded in JOY. Seeing kids light up at our table, compete in games, and learn about the powerful impact of Black male teachers was the highlight of our week.

Thank you to the Minnesota Vikings for welcoming us, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello, share a smile, and support our mission. We’re so proud to represent our educators and our community! 🖤👑

Major news for the future of education in Minnesota! 🎉🖤✨

We are beyond excited to be involved in a game-changing partnership with the University of Minnesota that creates a direct, fully funded path for HBCU graduates to lead in our classrooms!

Here is how it works: If a student earns their undergraduate education degree from an HBCU, becomes a Black Men Teach Fellow, and commits to teaching right here in Minnesota, the University of Minnesota will cover 100% of their Master’s degree tuition! 🙌📚

Imagine stepping into the classroom with a Master’s degree, zero graduate tuition debt, and a powerful brotherhood standing behind you every step of the way.

We know that our children’s schooling experience will never be complete without Black male educators. By locking arms with the U of M, we are making sure cost is never a barrier for brilliant Black educators to bring their gifts, wisdom, and joy to Minnesota students.

The future is bright, the pathway is clear, and the movement is growing! 🧱👑

Help us give a warm, joyful Black Men Teach welcome to our new People & Operations Coordinator, Brittany Harrison Leek, M.P.H.! 🎉🖤✨

Mississippi-born and Michigan-raised, Brittany believes that when you build strong foundations with intention, opportunity naturally grows out of them. With over a decade of experience across public health, educational technology, and HR operations, she brings a deep passion for taking care of the details that keep mission-driven organizations moving forward.

Now, she’s bringing her talents to BMT to ensure our entire team has the support, systems, and structures they need to focus on what matters most: transforming outcomes for students and expanding representation in our classrooms.

When asked why she chose Black Men Teach, Brittany summed it up in one powerful word: INNOVATION. 💡

Think back to when you were growing up. Who was the person who looked you in the eye and told you what you were capable of becoming? 💭

For so many young Black men, that voice belonged to a coach, a parental figure, or a community mentor. They taught us how to stand tall, work hard, and lead with purpose.

But who tells a boy he can teach? 🖤✨

At Black Men Teach, we believe that teaching is one of the highest forms of leadership a man can choose. That’s why we gathered coaches, mentors, and community pillars for our Champions Breakfast, a morning dedicated to locking arms and ensuring our young men know that the front of a classroom is a place where real champions are made.

When a Black boy sees a teacher who reflects his identity, his potential, and his lived experience, everything changes. But before he can become that teacher, someone has to plant the seed.

It takes a village to remind our young men that their presence, their intellect, and their joy belong in education.

What if changing the course of a child’s entire life started with a single classroom in elementary school? 🏫🖤

The research is clear: when a Black boy has just ONE Black male teacher between 3rd and 5th grade, his likelihood of dropping out of high school drops by 29%. For boys growing up in low-income households, the dropout rate plummets by 39%.

That isn't just a statistic. That is the magic of early representation ✨

This is why Black Men Teach chooses to focus on elementary schools. When we place strong, dedicated Black men at the beginning of a child's educational journey, we aren't just teaching reading and math, we are building confidence, belonging, and a belief in what is possible.

We believe our children's schooling experience will never be complete without Black male educators. And the evidence proves it.
