This Black History Month, SDIS students visited the historic Rondo neighborhood in Saint Paul.
Rondo was once the cultural and economic center of the city’s Black community before the construction of Interstate 94 displaced hundreds of families. Learning this history helps us better understand the city we live in today.
Thank you to Benny Roberts and author/historian Frank White for guiding us, and to the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center for welcoming us and sharing how community, education, and support continue to grow in Rondo today.
Student Diversity & Inclusion Services (SDIS) works to create spaces on campus where students can learn from one another, connect across backgrounds, and engage with the Twin Cities beyond the classroom. Trips, discussions, cultural programs, and community events are all part of building a stronger and more understanding campus community.
We have more student events coming up soon — stay tuned and join us next time.
