The Black Empowerment Student Alliance (BESA) at the University of St.
Thomas is a student run organization that seeks to promote achievement, unity, and awareness in and of the black community. We hold several events on campus and participate in community service projects to bring students closer together. BESA's constitution makes it clear that it is not necessary to be black to be a member, but it is necessary to share the same ideals and goals of BESA to be a member.

This Black History Month, we honor Martin Luther King Jr. for his leadership, courage, and lasting impact in the fight for justice and equality. His commitment to nonviolence, community, and collective progress continues to shape conversations and inspire action today.
As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of the importance of service, unity, and responsibility within our own communities.
