Metro Deaf School is a free public charter school for students ages birth-21, who are primarily Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing. We are an urban day school serving the seven-county Twin Cites, Minnesota and western Wisconsin area. We use a bilingual, American Sign Language (ASL) and English, interdisciplinary curriculum. Students are taught the linguistic structure of both languages, and the two languages are equally valued. Research has shown that students who have higher levels of ASL proficiency also have higher levels of English literacy (Strong and Prinz, 1007)

Join us this Sunday, Sept. 27, from 10am to 3pm for our fun annual tradition, Deaf Day at Minnesota Children’s Museum! Staff and students from Metro Deaf School will lead activities throughout the museum in American Sign Language. Learn basic ASL signs, create a bookmark with your name in sign language, participate in story time and experiment with Squishy Circuits. MDS families can attend for FREE! MDS families can contact [email protected] to get information for free admission. ASL interpreters will also be available throughout the museum.

Tu K from the minnesotalynx came to visit our school and we had an amazing time. Her Deaf mom was able to join us too! Our students had such a great time getting a peek into WNBA life through direct ASL communication. Core memory unlocked!
