In addition to working hard in the classroom, we try to give our students opportunities to practice speaking English in real life situations. Last week, students helped out in Alley Shoppe, a mission of Arlington Hills Lutheran Church. The students helped do quality checks of clothing that was donated, and then helped to sort the items by categories. This was a great way to end the unit we had just finished, that focused all on clothing!

One of our favorite ways to connect with each other is with a question in the morning. Students practice asking and answering the question with each other, and with their teachers. Today's question was... Did you have a good weekend?

In our classes, we have been talking about clothing, and the words MORE and LESS. What better time than to watch The Price Is Right, and one of the games that they play, called MORE or LESS! Each class watched how to play the game, and then played a version of the game that Teacher Jessica created using real clothing items. The classes worked together as teams to vote if each item cost more or less than the price that was given. We all had good laughs guessing!

This is a hard moment for many in our community.
"We Had Whistles: Minnesotans Under Operation Metro Surge" is a new oral history project documenting how immigrants and their neighbors are living through this time in Minnesota.
In partnership with Alight and funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, we're holding two Listening Sessions - to listen, reflect together, and let the community guide how these stories are gathered, protected, and shared.
Virtual: April 30, 2026 | 7:00-8:00 pm | Zoom
In-Person: May 6, 2026 | 6:00-8:00 pm | Northeast Minneapolis
This space is for immigrants, refugees, educators, students, faith leaders, nonprofit workers, small business owners, healthcare providers, and anyone holding this moment with us.
Registration required: https://gcv-listening-sessions.eventbrite.com
Your story matters. And it deserves to be told on your own terms.
Please share. These sessions are only as strong as the community that shows up.
