With a major in Philosophy or a major in Biblical & Theological Studies at University of Northwestern - St. Paul, you will:
Learn from caring and knowledgeable faculty
Be inspired to excel in your studies
Build on the solid foundation of Scripture
Gain transferable skills in communication, analysis, critical thinking, research and writing
Biblical & Theological Studies
The Biblical & Theological Studies major provides advanced study of Christian theology, biblical languages and customs, church history, Bible interpretation and more. Learn from faculty who have visited biblical sites in Israel, Greece, Turkey and Italy. This major is ideal for students who want to study the Bible in-depth, examine theological ideas and apply Christian beliefs to contemporary issues.
Philosophy
The Philosophy major is taught from a biblical perspective and is designed to increase your ability to intelligently address key questions about life. It will prepare you with practical skills that never go out of style. This major covers ethics, epistemology, logic and metaphysics. It addresses historical and contemporary views on philosophical questions, such as:
Does God know the future?
How could God be absolutely sovereign and people be free?
Since there is evil, what sense can be made of the claim that “God is good”?
Our philosophy professors have participated in projects at Oxford University and continue to publish and present internationally. Classroom discussions include extended conversation regarding others’ worldviews, the truth of basic beliefs, and logical relations between beliefs. All of this is rooted in a background of historic Christian theology, in particular the basic truth that God is acting according to plan for his purpose in Christ.
