These myths have nothing on us! Read more to learn a little bit about common myths we hear far too often.

💧 "Labor always begins with a dramatic water break."
Not necessarily! For many people labor begins with contractions, and some don't experience their water breaking until much later in labor. Some people even birth their baby with their water still intact (an en caul birth).

🗓️ "Giving birth after 40 weeks means you're late."
Nope! A full-term pregnancy can range from 37–42 weeks, and many healthy pregnancies go beyond their estimated due date.

🏡 "Midwives only attend home births and reject pain medications."
Definitely not. Midwives practice in a variety of settings, including hospitals, and support all kinds of birth preferences like epidurals and other pain management options.

✨ "Once a c-section, always a c-section."
Not always. Many people are candidates for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). Every situation is unique, and it's important to discuss your options with your care team!

👩‍👧 "Your labor will exactly mirror your mother's experience."
While family history can provide some context, every pregnancy and birth is its own story. Your experience may look completely different, and that’s okay!

📝 "Birth plans are pointless."
Actually, birth plans are incredibly helpful! They aren't about controlling every outcome, but about communicating your preferences, values, and priorities with your care team.

Informed parents make empowered decisions. 💛 What birth myth have you heard the most that you’d like to bust?!

If we had to sum postpartum support up in three words, it would be: one giant exhale. 😮‍💨

A moment of connection with your partner after weeks of adjustment. Help with that long (and never-ending) list of chores. Or a quiet moment to re-ground yourself with a breath or two. That's what a postpartum doula is there for. 👩‍🍼🫂🧡

We've been hearing lots of conversations lately about something called the “fourth trimester.” So let’s talk about it! 🐣

First, for anyone who hasn’t heard this term before (and might be panicking a little)… here’s what it means: The “fourth trimester” refers to the first 12 weeks after birth, when baby and their parent(s) are adjusting to life outside the womb. This time is just as important for bonding, adjustment, and development as the three trimesters baby spent growing in the womb!

During this time, babies often need a lot of physical closeness. Holding, soothing, feeding frequently, and staying physically near their caregivers are all completely normal and expected. Baby is still learning how to exist in the world, and being close to their people helps them feel safe and regulated. 😊

And this part we really want you to hear: the birthing parent’s body did an incredibly hard thing. And it’s still recovering! You may experience bleeding and soreness, hormonal shifts, mood changes, and a level of exhaustion that can feel completely overwhelming. All of that is part of this stage, too.

If things feel tender, emotional, messy, beautiful, and exhausting all at the same time… you’re not doing anything wrong. That’s often what this season can look like. That is where support, encouragement, and care matter most.

They say it takes a village for a reason. You were never meant to do this alone. Postpartum support can look like newborn care, parents getting real rest, emotional reassurance, guidance, help around the house, and so much more. During the fourth trimester, even the smallest acts of support can make a huge difference for both baby and parent(s).

If you've been through this stage before, what made you feel most supported during that time? 💛
