During the summer of 1916, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) coordinated a strike of iron ore miners on the Mesabi Iron Range. The strikers fought for higher wages, an eight-hour workday, and workplace reform. Although the strike failed, it remains as one of the largest labor conflicts in Minnesota history. May is Asian American & Pacific Islander History Month! Did you know that Hmong Americans make up the largest population of Minnesota’s Asian community? Today, we're shining a light on some of the Hmong story cloths that are held in the MNHS collections. Story cloths were frequently made in refugee camps, and depict aspects of migration, village life, or folk tales. Our TED educators have previously done a workshop about the Vietnam War and Hmong migration- check out a doc they put together with various resources: https://mnhs.info/3PE0XAT
