Join other Northern Lights teachers across the state for direct, ongoing support in implementing the Northern Lights Third Edition curriculum. At each synchronous virtual meeting, teachers will debrief how implementation of the previous unit went in their classrooms and get support and advice from others. Then, MNHS staff will provide insights and support on the curriculum materials for the upcoming unit.

Eliza Winston was brought to Minnesota in 1860 as an enslaved woman. On the shores of Lake Harriet, she fought for her freedom and escaped bo***ge. Join the Hennepin History Museum to learn more about her story through talks, digital maps, kids’ activities, and an opportunity to help secure a park bench in her name. This community day is part of We Want More History, coordinated national day of programming to strengthen civic health, build community trust, foster democratic dialogue, and showcase the vital role of history in public life.

This week we met at MNHS's warehouse to assemble our Ojibwe Shoulder Bag Activity Kits! These kits are a fantastic supplemental resource in the classroom to encourage learning and appreciation of Ojibwe culture, history, and arts. The Third edition of the Northern Lights curriculum will be released in August! This curriculum is used in 6th grade social studies classes to teach Minnesota history. If you are a teacher who will be using Northern Lights, there's still time to sign up for Northern Lights 3rd Edition Orientation. The orientation will equip you with the skills to start your next school year with a bang!

During the summer of 1916, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) coordinated a strike of iron ore miners on the Mesabi Iron Range. The strikers fought for higher wages, an eight-hour workday, and workplace reform. Although the strike failed, it remains as one of the largest labor conflicts in Minnesota history.
