September 5 was the first day of our 2026 Fall Semester, and we are thrilled to welcome more than 110 registered students across our six levels of Mandarin classes! We are so happy to see our Mandarin learning community continue to grow and welcome more and more students each semester.

Another exciting part of our new Fall Semester is the addition of two new cultural classes:

🎤🎼🪇Discover Taiwan Through Music – Singing Class

Led by Joseph Lin Laoshi, this fun singing class offers a wonderful way to improve your Mandarin while exploring Taiwanese culture through music.

Students will improve their pronunciation, learn new vocabulary, strengthen their listening skills, and learn more about Taiwanese culture—all while singing popular Mandarin songs!

👫👭👬Mandarin in Action: Language, Culture, and Connection – Teenage Mandarin Class

Designed for teenagers with intermediate Mandarin proficiency, this class provides an opportunity for students to expand their language skills and communicate more confidently in Mandarin.

Kuan Laoshi has extensive experience teaching school-age children and will guide students in learning more advanced Mandarin expressions through a variety of engaging topics and real-life communication.

📅⏰Both cultural classes will run from September 19 through December 5, 2026, for a total of 10 classes, meeting every Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

**The Discover Taiwan Through Music class is an optional extension for our Fall Semester students.**

Providing a lifelong learning environment for our Mandarin community is one of our primary goals. TCML-MN welcomes you to join us, continue learning, and discover the joy of Mandarin together!

👏 Congratulations to our former student on being featured in an OCAC News article for her inspiring Mandarin learning journey and admission to National Taiwan University (NTU)!

At TCML-MN, we are incredibly proud to have been part of her journey. Our team, esp. the director Pei-Wen, had the privilege of assisting her with her TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) preparation and supporting her NTU application. Seeing her hard work, perseverance, and passion for learning Mandarin lead to this wonderful achievement is truly rewarding.

Her success reminds us that learning Mandarin can open doors to exciting academic opportunities and meaningful cultural experiences.

Congratulations once again! We wish her continued success in her studies at National Taiwan University and look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish in the future.

The countdown is on! Our 2026 Fall Semester begins on Saturday, September 5, and we look forward to welcoming both returning and new students for another exciting semester of Mandarin learning. Classes meet every Saturday morning for 14 weeks.

This fall, we're excited to introduce a brand-new optional 3rd hour cultural class, "Learn as You Sing," taught by Joseph Laoshi. Through popular Mandarin songs, students will strengthen their pronunciation, listening skills, vocabulary, and cultural understanding while enjoying a fun and engaging learning experience. This enrichment class is a wonderful complement to our regular Mandarin courses.

Whether you're continuing your Mandarin journey or just getting started, TCML-MN offers a welcoming learning environment, experienced teachers, and meaningful opportunities to explore Taiwanese language and culture.

TCML-MN staff and students attended the wonderful performance Glorious Taiwan presented by Formosa Melody Music Center on May 19. We were also honored to host a booth in the hallway to share our Mandarin learning resources, scholarship opportunities, cultural events, and registration information with the community.

Director Genera Lai visited our booth and, together with his wife, received two TCML-MN T-shirts as welcome gifts. It was such a pleasure to meet them in person!

We would also like to give a special shout-out to Michael from class L407, who hosted the event in Mandarin. The audience was truly impressed by his fluent and confident speech. He beautifully demonstrated one of the most important values of language learning — not only learning the language, but also using it to connect with others and contribute to the community.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this meaningful cultural event!

🥇🥈🥉TCML-MN hosted the 2026 Mandarin Song Singing Contest on the final Saturday of our Spring Semester, and the event was a wonderful success!

We were delighted to have 4 group performances and 5 solo performances participate in this year’s competition. Everyone brought so much energy, talent, and enthusiasm to the stage!

Class L305 kicked off the event with the inspiring song 《我相信》, followed by a fun audience sing-along of 《對面的女孩看過來》 taught by Joseph Laoshi.

We are excited to share videos of the Top 2 Solo Performances with you. Thank you to all of our participants, teachers, families, and supporters for making this event so memorable!🥳

International Festival of Minnesota (iFest)

About the Festival:
Hosted by a nonprofit organization, iFest (formerly Festival of Nations) brings together over 70 nations and ethnic communities. This year’s theme is “Belonging.” The festival features:

🔸Cultural performances and demonstrations
🔸Traditional arts and crafts
🔸A wide variety of international foods and drinks

For many years, members of the Taiwanese community have participated in the former Festival of Nations, sharing our food, art, traditions, and culture with the broader community. We are excited to continue this tradition again this year!

💁‍♀️The Taiwan Online Library will host a booth featuring Taiwanese souvenirs
💁TCCLS will offer calligraphy bookmarks
💁‍♂️There will also be demonstrations of Taiwanese cultural heritage
