The Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing seeks to help address the national nursing shortage by educa

School of Nursing Vision: We prepare highly skilled professional nurses who are culturally responsive, practice clinical excellence with ingenuity, and proactively improve whole-person healing to advance health equity and social justice. The School of Nursing is proposing offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) upon opening, pending approval of state, national, and federal regulatory bodies. Both programs will prepare students for entry into the nursing practice.

On August 26, the Morrison Family College of Health celebrated the grand opening of our Susan S. Morrison Learning and Simulation Lab! What a blessing to gather with friends, students, colleagues, and members of the Morrison Family to see this vision come to life.

With the growth of our Nursing programs, it was important to provide more simulation spaces for our students to gain hands-on experience. We can't wait to see them in action this fall!

✨New Faces in the Morrison Family College of Health✨

Welcome to Dr. Jiwon Kang! She joins the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Kang earned her PhD in Nursing from Korea University and most recently worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Minnesota Extension. Her research interests include nursing informatics and AI-enhanced nursing education, with a focus on using emerging technologies and data to improve nursing education and practice.

MSN Cohort 4 finished their summer coursework with a class titled "Nursing for Children," where their final project was a public service announcement on children's safety. Check out all the hot takes our nursing students have when it comes to keeping kids safe!

Last Friday, we welcomed our Master of Science in Nursing Cohort 5 to campus for orientation. Introducing our new part-time hybrid pathway meant we had more students than ever before!

Our new students were greeted by volunteers from Cohort 4 as they acquainted themselves with each other and our campus! They heard from Dean MayKao Hang, as well as faculty and staff in the program.

All in all, it was a great day on campus. We can't wait for the rest of your journey, Cohort 5. Welcome to the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing!

Last month Brynn McDonald and Enrique Aguilera from MSN cohort 4 completed a community clinical at Camp Not-A-Clot, a summer camp at Camp Ihduhapi for kids and teens with chronic bleedings disorders which is hosted by the Upper Midwest Bleeding Disorders Alliance.

The Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing strives to provide a vast array of clinical placement opportunities. Here's what Brynn had to say about her experience:

"We helped with check in, medication labeling and organizing, meeting the campers, learning diagnoses, and other daily camp traditions/activities. The staff were very kind and taught us a lot about bleeding disorders, what the clinic is like, different medications and methods of administration, and much more. We wish we could have stayed all week!"

Nursing graduate Priya Sanicharra '26, was selected as the undergraduate commencement speaker for our ceremony this spring. A friend to all and incredibly hard working, here's what Priya had to say about her time at St. Thomas:

"Looking back, I'm so grateful for my time at St. Thomas and everything the nursing program gave me. It challenged me in ways I never expected, but it also helped me grow in confidence, resilience, and compassion. Some of my favorite memories are the friendships I built, the support from my professors, and the experiences that reminded me why I chose nursing in the first place. St. Thomas prepared me not just for a career, but for a lifetime of learning and serving others, and I'll always be thankful to be part of the Tommie community."

Final touches coming together in the newly renovated Susan S. Morrison Learning and Simulation Lab in the Schoenecker Center on South campus. The growth of our nursing program has been astounding, and we can't wait for our students to use the space this year!

✨New Faces in the Morrison Family College of Health✨

Welcome Cade Madson to the Morrison Family College of Health as our Program Coordinator for the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing. He comes to us after completing a Master's degree in the Leadership in Student Affairs program here at St. Thomas. He currently lives in Minneapolis with his wife and their 3 year old poodle mix, Murphy. He can't wait to get to know everyone in Morrison College!

Emily Fitzgerald, Clinical Nursing Faculty and certified mid-wife, recently wrote an op-ed for the Minnesota Star Tribune about the importance of preserving birthright citizenship as the U.S. Supreme Court considers the issue.
