The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

In 1950, Pope Pius XII solemnly defined the Assumption as a dogma of the Catholic faith. Today, August 15, the Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary—the belief that, at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into heavenly glory.

The Assumption points us toward the promise of Christ’s Resurrection: that death does not have the final word and that our bodies, too, are destined for glory.

As we celebrate Mary today, may her faithful “yes” to God inspire us to trust more deeply in his promises and to follow Christ with hope.

"And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him" - Matthew 17: 1-3 (RSV)

"Listen carefully, my child, to the master's instructions, and attend to them with the ear of your heart." — Rule of St. Benedict, Prologue 1

Today we celebrate St. Benedict, whose Rule has shaped Christian discipleship for over 1,500 years. At Saint Meinrad, his call to prayer, work, hospitality, and humility continues to guide our life and mission.

Happy Feast of Saints Peter & Paul!

United in faith and martyrdom, Peter and Paul helped transform the heart of the Roman Empire into the heart of the Church. In God’s providential plan, their witness to both Jewish and Gentile believers proclaimed the Gospel to the world and opened the way of salvation in Christ to all through His Church. Thanks be to God!

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.'

Philip said to him, 'Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.'

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works." (John 14:6-10)

Today in the US the Church celebrates the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi.

"The Eucharist is the culmination both of God's action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit. By the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all.” (CCC 1325-1326)
