THREE of our recent 2026 Graduates will be attending music school this fall! Each one completed a successful application and audition to each of their schools last school year and will soon be moving to their college. Congratulations to the following students:

🎶 MaryAnna Sines will begin her studies in Biology at Allegheny College where she will also complete a Minor in Music Performance.

🥁 Isaac Hayes is packed and ready to start marching band camp this Saturday at Mansfield University to major in Music Education.

🎼 Gracie Herzing will be studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Music Minor at Mansfield University.

Each one was a huge part of our music program at St. Marys Area High School Music Department in chorus, band, music lab, and all of our extra curricular activities.

In order to be accepted into their college major or minor, each student had to complete an intense and formal audition process by selecting appropriate and professional songs and pieces to play in front of collegiate judges; practice for hours at school and on their own; complete entrance theory exams; complete an interview with a college professor; test individual music singing and memory skills; drive to and from their college several times; and anxiously wait for an acceptance letter after the audition. Each student has an interesting story to tell about this musical journey and each one has interesting goals for their future.

Congratulations and best of luck in college! We all hope to see you perform again and accomplish all of your musical endeavors!

MaryAnna Sines has worked and practiced tirelessly every year and especially this past school year. This fall, MaryAnna will begin her studies in Biology at Allegheny College where she will also complete a Minor in Music Performance! Congratulations on your successful application, interview, and audition!

In college, MaryAnna will have a dedicated voice teacher for lessons, sing in the college choirs, and take many college music classes. The choirs travel around the world and host phenomenal concerts throughout the year. In the St. Marys Area High School Music Department, MaryAnna sang in all of the choirs and played French Horn in the band. She has high honors in All-Sate PMEA Choir as well as the NAfME All-Eastern Choir. She performed in all of the Spring Musicals and was a part of many music classes. MaryAnna was an integral part of our music program at SMAHS and we look forward to seeing her as a part of a bigger program at Allegheny! Congratulations!

We want to celebrate another graduate who is heading off to college for music! Isaac Hayes is about to attend CU-Mansfield Music Department to major in Music Education! In fact, he is packed and ready to start marching band camp this Saturday at Mansfield University. In the St. Marys Area High School Music Department, Isaac performed with Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Indoor Percussion, Music Lab, and even performed in the Spring Musical on stage and in the Orchestra.

In order to be accepted into college for music, he had to complete an intense and formal audition process; select appropriate and professional songs and pieces to play in front of collegiate judges; practice for hours at home and at school; complete an entrance theory exam; an interview with a college professor; test individual music singing and memory skills; drive to and from the college several times; and anxiously wait for an acceptance letter after the audition.

We are very proud of you, Isaac, and we can't wait to see you fulfill your dream of becoming a music teacher!

Congratulations to Gracie Herzing on her acceptance to Commonwealth University, CU-Mansfield Music Department! Gracie has always been a part of the SMAHS Concert Choir and has performed on stage several times for the Spring Musicals. This past year, Gracie completed a successful audition and acceptance into the Bachelor of Arts Minor Program! Brava!

Music can be “just something fun” we do and we can simply enjoy it. But for many, music, theater, and any of the arts can become a career or something that helps them get into college and moves them along into an occupation. We have music alumni who are professional singers and players, dancers, directors, actors, technicians, and teachers all around the country. We also have students who used their skills in music to gain college scholarships so they can attend for free. This is just one of the many reasons why music and the arts are so important to have in our schools. Gracie is on a good path to achieve all of her goals! Good luck in college!

Last week, we held our Annual Music Department Banquet and Awards Night. We honored our students in grades 6-12 who were members of the Marching Band, Indoor Guard, Indoor Drumline, Dance Team, PMEA, IU9, and "Bye Bye Birdie". It was a wonderful evening of food and fellowship, story telling, and inspiration to perfect and perform next year. We have so much to be proud of this year!

A special thanks to The Nutrition Group who catered our special meal! And a big "thank you" to Mrs. Catalone and Mrs. Herzing who each led an inspiring speech to our students about working hard to achieve our goals and to continue music for the rest of our lives; a perfect message to our performers!

Check out the photos of each grade level and some special awards. We are so glad we got to spend one of the last of our school days together!

We finished up all of our concerts for the year last week! Chorus members in grades 4-12 performed together while the Middle School Bands had a joint concert. Over 200 students practiced and ultimately performed on stage for our concerts and it was awesome to see our younger performers with us!

This is a great time to give a "shout out" to our district music teachers who bring these concerts to life each season and each year. They work together behind the scenes and in front to give students a good musical experience. Thank you to Ms. Foote at South and Fox, Mrs. Kleppinger at South, Mrs. Sines at the Middle School, Ms. Quinn at the Middle School and High School, and Mr. Brooks at the High School.
