St. Matthias reminds us that God sees the heart, not fame, not power. Though he walked in the background, he was chosen to take the place of Judas and become a pillar of the early Church.

Today we celebrate the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV. At Saint Leo University, the name “Leo” carries 15 centuries of meaning – from Leo the Great, who turned back Attila the Hun through moral authority, to Leo XIII at our founding in 1889, to Leo XIV today. The world needs more Leos.
