In collaboration with Berrien RESA and MI Stem, little Lakers were able to experience the basics of coding with the help of a fleet of very fun friends: Sphero Indis. Students programmed the tiny bots to follow their chosen paths using a variety of colored tiles that combined a "memory game" quality with the fundamentals of algorithms.

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School
Named to Advanced Placement School Honor Roll

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School recognized for student
success in Advanced Placement program while broadening access.

Saint Joseph, MI– College Board announced that Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School (OLL) has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning PLATINUM distinction.

The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School had 70.5% of high school students in grades 10-12 enroll in an AP class and take the AP exam. 69.2% of the 2023 test takers scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam. The OLL AP pass rate (students scoring a 3 or higher) has increased by over 30% since 2019. OLL had 12 AP Scholars for this year’s AP administration!

2023 AP Offerings:
English Language and Composition
English Literature and Composition
European History
Physics 1
Spanish Language
US History
2-D Art
“Affording our teachers the support and development that is needed to bring out the very best in our AP students is critical to the success of the program. Teachers attend summer training, networking events, online classes and work regularly with colleagues via the AP College Board platform. It is evident our students are being taught by the very best in their secondary fields. We are extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments,” commented, Principal, James White M.Ed.

“AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance – they represent the best of our AP program.”

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School is a Pk-12 Catholic school located on two campuses, rooted in Gospel values and innovative in teaching and learning. Enrollment is currently open for the 2023-2024 school year. The school’s “Our Lady” scholarship is currently affording all new families 100% tuition support. Contact OLLakers.org for enrollment information.

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

Advanced Placement Scholar Recipients 2023 OLL. Now is the time to be a Laker!

Engineering, literature, and a curious study of human skepticism converged last week in the MakerSpace when OLL students honed their construction and civil engineering skills using the much loved Makedo tools! Inspired by the book Twenty-One Elephants and Still Standing by April Jones Prince, upper elementary classes constructed suspension bridges, and tested their ability to hold weight. Lower elementary classes built the fastest and slowest ramps as they studied angle concepts and friction. Now is the time to become a Laker! Contact Mrs. Kirschner at [email protected] for more information.
