I've proclaimed today as Overdose Awareness Day in Vermont. 173 Vermonters lost their lives to overdose in 2025, a significant decrease from 269 fatal overdoses in 2022, the highest number of fatal overdoses to date.

It's important we continue to invest in proven strategies and reduce the sigma around substance use disorder because one life lost to overdose in Vermont is one too many.

Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. 💜

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid, and illegally made fentanyl can be found in counterfeit pills and other drugs without a person knowing it’s there. Prevention starts with awareness, education, and compassion.

💜 Talk openly about the risks.
💜 Learn the signs of an opioid overdose.
💜 Carry naloxone (Narcan) if you can.
💜 Remember: One pill can be deadly. In fact, just 2 milligrams (smaller than a grain of salt) can be fatal.

Let’s work together to spread awareness, reduce stigma, save lives, and support those affected by fentanyl and substance use.

Know the facts. Share the message. Save a life.
