What a fun way to wrap up March is Reading Month!
Our students participated in a special “Read to a Fossil” activity. Spending time reading, then getting hands-on by digging for fossils! It was the perfect combination of literacy and excitement, and our students had a dino-rific time!

The Mackinac State Historic Parks Service visited Riley to share their Amazing Animal Adaptations presentation. This presentation explored how animals in the North Woods of Michigan survive the winter. Students learned what plants and animals needed to live, how our regional climate affected them, and why seasons change. Through animal mounts, photos, and stories, the program highlighted the winter adaptations of animals such as owls, grouse, otters, foxes, and beavers.

Our 3rd-grade students just wrapped up their Michigan History unit in Social Studies! They created amazing dioramas to highlight important moments in Michigan history and hosted a gallery walk in the cafeteria, sharing their projects and what they learned with students from other grades.

During PE, some teachers and students took advantage of the winter weather by enjoying some time out on the ice before the spring thaw. We also had a special visit from the Michigan State University women's hockey team, who joined our students for some fun pickup hockey games, an exciting experience for everyone involved!

In 3rd grade, our students were hard at work exploring multiplication through arrays! Students discovered that the same total can be shown in different ways by creating equivalent equations and comparing patterns across problems. They also challenged themselves to break apart arrays into smaller parts and combine them to make new ones, deepening their understanding of how numbers work together.
