How to contribute to Lights Out:

Turn off exterior decorative lighting
Extinguish pot and flood-lights
Substitute strobe lighting wherever possible
Reduce atrium lighting wherever possible
Turn off interior lighting especially on higher stories
Substitute task and area lighting for workers staying late or pull window coverings
Down-shield exterior lighting to eliminate horizontal glare and all light directed upward
Install automatic motion sensors and controls wherever possible

Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and the turning point back toward the light.

Winter is not a season to hide from. It is a season to experience. Cold air, crunching snow, icy puddles, quiet moments, and wide open play all offer something children deeply need. Being outside in winter builds resilience, curiosity, and a connection to the natural rhythms of the world.

At Forest City Village School, outdoor time is a vital part of every day, even in winter. We believe children grow best when they can move their bodies, explore freely, and engage with nature in all seasons, not just the easy ones.

Winter invites us to slow down, notice more, and experience the world as it is. We are grateful to share these moments with our students today and every day.
