Mark Bookout appointed Missouri S&T CIO
Mark Bookout, a member of the Missouri S&T information technology (IT) staff for 23 years and current interim co-chief information officer, has been appointed CIO for S&T for a one-year term effective immediately.
“As interim CIO for the past several months, Mark has exhibited the strong leadership and management qualities that our university needs in a chief information officer at this time,” says Cuba Plain, interim vice chancellor for finance and operations. “I’m very pleased that Mark will serve in this role.”
As CIO, Bookout will oversee Missouri S&T’s information technology division. The IT division is responsible for maintaining and supporting the campus’s IT infrastructure, including network and computing systems, telecommunications, database systems, and desktop and server computing. IT also supports campus technology’s use in labs and classrooms, research operations, and business services.
Prior to becoming interim co-CIO, Bookout was director for research support services (RSS), which oversees the Minerfly UAV service, the Minerbytes information network, cluster computing, high-performance desktops, software support and Linux support. He became co-interim CIO, along with Cathy Allison, last June.
Bookout’s primary professional expertise is in software engineering, with work experience in the U.S. Air Force, private business and academic environments. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Park College.
