As we gear up for the start of another incredible school year, we’re filled with excitement and anticipation. The first day back is always a special moment for our students, and this year, we want to celebrate it in a big way—by sharing your student’s first day back to school with our school community!

We’re inviting you to capture those precious first-day moments and share them with us. Whether it’s a picture of your student all ready for their first day, their smiling face as they walk into school, or that proud moment as they say goodbye—we want to see it all!

Please send us your favorite first-day photo by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to Stacey Mendoza, SHSD Director of Communications at [email protected]. By submitting a photo, you are giving St. Helens School District permission to use it on our social media platforms and in district publications to showcase the joy and energy that comes with the start of a new school year.

Let’s come together to make this year’s first day back a memorable one for everyone. We can’t wait to see your student’s shining smile and to share these special moments with our St. Helens community!

This special event is a great opportunity for your child to:
• Meet their teacher
• Explore their classroom
• Drop off school supplies

If you're unable to attend, no worries! Students can still bring their supplies on the first day of school.

What an incredible turnout at yesterday’s St. Helens Middle School Riverhawk Launch! A massive THANK YOU to all of our Riverhawk families who came out to kick off the new school year with us and make the event such a huge success!

Our families checked off everything on their list from registration questions and bus route information to athletics, clubs, mastering their locker combinations, and so much more!

We were so excited to see the halls buzzing. We even had special appearances from our Riverhawk mascot and our District Superintendent!

A huge shoutout to our dedicated staff and amazing student leaders who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event run so smoothly.

As summer wraps up, we want to remind our families of the final dates for our Free Summer Meals Program, which differ by location.

McBride Elementary: The final day of meal service will be Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Lewis & Clark Elementary: The final day of meal service will be Friday, August 21, 2026.

All children ages 18 and under are still welcome to join us for free meals through these final dates. Thank you for participating in our program this summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the new school year!

The start of a new school year is just around the corner, and we are excited to welcome our students and families back to St. Helens Middle School!

Join us for Riverhawk Launch on Thursday, August 27, our back-to-school open house designed to help students and families get ready for a successful year.

Riverhawk Launch
Thursday, August 27, 2026
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m.
St. Helens Middle School | 354 North 15th Street | 503-366-7300

Riverhawk Launch is an open house, so there is no assigned time for families to attend. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to stop by whenever works best for your family during either of the available time periods.

During Riverhawk Launch, families will have the opportunity to:
• Access information about online registration and ParentVUE/StudentVUE
• Complete registration verification
• Get information about Gear Up
• Learn about athletics, clubs and activities
• Get bus information
• Take a school tour and get help with lockers
• Purchase PE clothing and yearbooks
• Learn about our PTO and how to join
• Ask questions and get ready for the first day of school

Students will be able to access their class schedules through ParentVUE/StudentVUE beginning Monday, August 24. Printed schedules will also be available for students on the first day of school.

If you have questions or concerns about your student's schedule, students can speak with the school counselor during Riverhawk Launch or families may email Margie K. at [email protected].

As we get ready to welcome students back for the 2026–2027 school year, we’re continuing our St. Helens School District School Supply Drive and our community can help make sure every student has the supplies they need to start the year feeling ready, confident, and supported.

Want to help?

Because ParentSquare automatically creates an account for every parent and guardian using your preferred email address and phone number on file, getting started is seamless.
• New Families: Look for an invitation via email and/or text to activate your ParentSquare account!

What Can You Do with ParentSquare?
ParentSquare is a simple, secure platform designed to keep your school community connected. With ParentSquare, you can easily:
• Receive Updates: Get district, school, and classroom messages via email, text, or app notifications in your preferred language.
• Directly Communicate: Direct message teachers, staff, or other parents, and participate in group messages.
• Stay Involved: Comment on school postings, sign forms and permission slips, and schedule parent-teacher conferences.
• Access Anywhere: Manage everything convenient from your mobile phone app or web portal.

Customizing Your Notification Preferences
You have full control over how and when you receive updates from us. You can choose to receive posts as they happen (Instant) or grouped into a single daily summary delivered at 6:00 PM (Digest).
Note: Emergency alerts, direct messages, and urgent posts will always be delivered immediately, regardless of your settings.
To update your notifications in the app:
1. Open and log into the ParentSquare app on your mobile device.
2. Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the Home screen.
3. Select Account, then tap Notifications.
4. Adjust the toggles for email, text messages, or app alerts, and choose Instant or Digest for each.

We are excited to offer Kinder Camp for children entering kindergarten this fall!

Kinder Camp is a four-day program designed to give incoming kindergarten students a jump-start on feeling ready for school. During camp, your child will become familiar with the routines, expectations, and activities of a general education kindergarten classroom, helping to build confidence and comfort with this important transition.

Program Details:
Dates: August 17–20, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: Lewis & Clark Elementary

Kinder Camp is a wonderful opportunity for your child to make new friends, meet school staff, and become more comfortable in their new learning environment before the first day of school.
