Letâs change the way we talk about making choices with our food.
Instead of allowing ourselves, and calling them âcheat mealsâ or a âcheat dayâ to give yourself permission to eat or drink whatever the crap you want to, how about we own our choices and call them what they are.
How about we say something like this:
âWhat am I going to choose today that will treat my mind and body well- like the temple I am building it to be?â
When you give yourself permission to âcheat,â youâre only cheating yourself of greater health.
If you want to eat a cookie, make a choice and eat a cookie. Then move on. And if eating one cookie turns into 10, maybe you look at that and go: HuhâŚokay. Whatâs up with that? Knowing that foods not created in nature do not have the capacity in the body to be recognized as food, helps. How does this work? Hereâs how. When we eat foods from nature, God designed them to work perfectly with our bodies to tell us when we have had enough, and to stop eating them. Case in point: how many bananas đ do you eat in a row? Half? One? Thatâs because it is actual FOOD, and the body knows how to respond to real food only, by sending the correct hormones from your brain to your gut to tell you youâve had enough. Guess what? Youâll never get that response from fake food: ie, cookies, ice cream, chips, etc. Thatâs why you can eat and eat and eat this fake food and never be satisfied.
Maybe the choice is choosing a better ingredient cookie. Theyâre out there. And recipes exist for this. A better ingredient chip.
Knowing why something works the way it works is half the battle. The second part is self-control. And that, my friends, is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. That one we must ask for God to help us with. Because, by golly, when that cookie hits- it hits. And I WANT 5. Or I WANT the whole bag of chips. The Holy Spirit says: âHey now, one or 2 is enough, or a few handfuls of chips will be enough. OR you might even get a re-direction: âHave you had enough water today? I think you need a refreshing, health-filled glass of water instead.â And THEN, the HS goes one step further and gives us the strength to make the better choice. God is so good. Yes, and amen to the HS.
You get what I mean?
