In musical theatre, you might hear singers talk about singing in the mask. It sounds a little mysterious at first, but the idea is simple: we're paying attention to the sensations and vibrations you may notice around the front of your face, including your nose, lips, teeth, and cheekbones.

We call this forward resonance.
