Hello all you wonderful people. Sometimes life throws you curves! Last Spring we wrote, hoping to finish our 14 year long quest to get our Latter-day Saint Homeschool Curriculum all on line. It was not to be. COVID, two family funerals, and an unfortunate digital disaster intervened. Now, with faith in God, and faith in the idea that there are brothers and sisters who need what we have to offer, we beginning again.

The Home School Curriculum is slated to be finished by Christmas!
Each of 10 Levels is being put-online a week at a time. Level 1, (PreK-2nd), will appear the week of October 16. Each succeeding Level will appear online, one Level a Week, for the succeeding 9 weeks.

To celebrate we are having a TUITION SALE for NEW STUDENTS in the LIVE ONLINE ACADEMY, in conjunction with Fall Conference and the beginning of President Nelson's 100th year. THE DEAL:
If a student is signed-up for the LIVE ONLINE ACADEMY now through the month of OCTOBER, 2023, tuition will be only $100.00 a month. (An 8-month contract, Oct.-May is required.) (Regular tuition is $180.00 a month.)

A very nice lady recently asked how much our online program cost. I thought you might be interested in the answer, too. So, here we go. We have 3 Online Programs: the LIVE Online Academy, the Online Academy, and the Curriculum Subscriptions. Since I did not know to which program she was referring, I answered for all three.

The first Online Program is The LIVE ONLINE ACADEMY. It costs $180.00 a month per child. This meets 2 hours a day, Monday through Friday. We teach Scriptures, Language Arts, Math, History+, and Science. It has much the same program as the Online Academy (below), except that the LIVE Online Academy is in person LIVE teaching and learning.

The second program is the The Online Academy. It is basically the same Curriculum, but uses recorded classes. This gives the family more flexibility as to when they conduct their homeschool.
In the Online Academy,
1) We administer the assessments to find-out where a student is in Language Arts and Math, and then place them in the Curriculum where their performance on the Assessments indicates.
2) We set-up the day-to-day assignments, receive those assignments from the student, correct them, and report back to parent and student as to how the student is doing.
3) If a tutoring session is required, we set-it up with the parent and the student. There is no additional charge for occasional tutoring. However, if it becomes a continuous need, we charge the going rate of $25.00 an hour; $15.00 a half hour. and $10.00 for up to 20 minutes.
4) We also keep grade and progress records.
5) Students meet according to Grade Level Groups: PreK-K; First & Second; 3rd - 5th; 6th-8th; 9th & 10th; and the last group - 11th, 12th, Honors, and AP/CLEP classes. These meetings are every other week for one to two hours 10AM-Noon Mountain Time or 10-11 for Pre-K-2nd. During these meeting times we play Academic Jeopardy; may discuss fine literature; present oral book reports or other oral presentations; carry-out a combined project; have simulations, and conduct Grade Level Group business, plus other activities. Each group has a government structure where the students get practice in conducting and helping to plan the meetings.
6) We also have a monthly theme:

November - Thankful Journal and Just Serve
December - Spreading Local Cheer
January - Health & Fitness
February - Heritage Month
March - Aspiring Higher - Goals
April - Remembering Christ - Giving Baskets & Just Serve
May - Parent Appreciation

The cost of the Online Academy is a subscription to the Curriculum (See below), plus $100.00 a month per student, for ten months.
Early withdrawal requires that the following month's tuition is also paid as an early withdrawal fee.

The third program is the ONLINE CURRICULUM. These are the PDF or PDF & VIDEO CLASSES that are much the same as what is taught in the two Academies.
Here, the parent has total responsibility over administering assessments to ascertain the correct level; plus what is taught when; grading, assignments, and special projects.
Access to the full curriculum is $25.00 a month, or $100.00 a year per username and password.

Please Note: The website was being rearranged according to grade level in late May when COVID hit the staff. Due to COVID, where the staff was out for 6 weeks, and due to some subsequent technical difficulties, and delayed shipments, not all the courses are currently online. We are working feverishly to catch-up, and much has been accomplished. To better serve those who have signed-up or will be signing-up for either the Curriculum, or the Online Academy, we are prioritizing the grade levels and subjects they need. We expect most everything for grades Pre-K through 8th will be online by August 22, and everything for those grades by September 5th. Since in the beginning of the academic year we assess where a student places in the Language Arts and Math curricula, and then we review Study and Success Skills, this slight delay should not pose a problem.

Today was a milestone day in the life of Ascent Advantage Academy. It was decision time - concentrate on the Online and In-House Academy or the CURRICULUM for LDS Home Schools.

This type of decision has happened before, when we chose between running an educational supply store or running a K-12 school. We chose the school. It has had a 27 year run and morphed into Online during Covid.

Now, we must choose between the SCHOOL and the CURRICULUM. WHERE can we do the most good and WHAT goes best with our current lifestyle?

We will still serve those who find our Academy through word of mouth, but will not actively promote it. Spanish is offered as an ELECTIVE from 11:05 to 11:35 AM 2 days a week for each age group: 3rd-5th M/W and 6-10th T/TH.
