Today would mark our last regular season game of the 2020 season - one of which started, but never saw completion. Today also marks the official end of the Concordia University-Portland softball program, as the institution announced its closure in February. The past 3.5 years have seen much progression within the program - the transition from NAIA to NCAA DII, the move from Delta to Porter Park as its official home and in 2019 its 1st-ever NCAA Championship and trip to NCAA Regionals. As the saying goes though, nothing in life is given, it is earned. From the 2017 team that had to pass the "running test" on 5 inches of ice thanks to an untimely ice/snow storm that shut down the city of Portland for a week, to the 2018 team that put the program on its back in the transitional period; the 2019 team that was picked last in the pre-season coaches poll and the 2020 team that had a target on its back with every team we played. But these athletes weren't only successful on the field, but also in the classroom. We also raised our team GPA from 2.8 to 3.4 in that time frame as well as attaining numerous academic awards at the conference, regional and national levels, exemplifying true student-athletes.
To every alumnae that wore the navy and white, we THANK YOU. This program could not have been in the position it is today without you paving the way. You forever changed program history.
To the current student-athletes, although our season itself was cut short, your experience wasn't. May you carry it all into your futures, whether that's a new team, a career or completion on your degree. The future is what you make it.
To Pastor Bo - thank you for starting every season with our traditional home game "first pitch". Your spirit and pitch that seemed "just a bit high" was the perfect introduction to each new season.
To the "Voice of the Cavaliers", Mr. Tod Pickett, you kept those fans who weren't able to make our games entertained with your colorful play-by-play announcing.
Finally, to our fans - you are THE BEST. Your support did not go unnoticed and the program is forever indebted to you.
May you all forever bleed navy and thank you for the footprints you have all had on this program - FOREVER CAVS.
