McKay Hafen April 29, 2022
https://spilsburymortuary.com/?p=1231
Mckay Hafen, 58 years old of Santa Clara, Utah, born October 3rd, 1963, passed away on Friday, April 29th, 2022. Mckay grew up in Santa Clara, Utah, helping his family on the farm throughout his youth. Mckay would always tell the story of how he didn’t bring anything forlunch, so when he would get hungry, he would pick an onion in the field and eat it raw.
He began building swimming pools and doing landscaping in the 80s. He met his wife, Julie, when he stopped to help her fix a flat tire on her car. They started dating a little bit after that, and they were married May 4th, 1985. They moved to Las Vegas in 1990 with the company hewas working for back then. After a few years in Vegas, Mckay wanted a better life for his familyand himself, so he made the decision to move to Southern Utah and start his own pool company. In 2001, Hafen’s Pools and Landscape Inc. was born. Mckay did all he could to grow this company, and he loved being able to serve the people of Southern Utah – and beyond – with quality swimming pools, beautiful landscaping, and making people’s yards look amazing. Hafen’s Pools would sponsor various events, some of which included Santa Clara Swiss Days, Vista Charter School’s VEX robotics program, Snow Canyon High School Tennis, and Snow Canyon Baseball Little League.
Mckay and Julie were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Utah Temple on November 7th, 2003.
Mckay loved classic cars, specifically the Camaro. He spent many hours with his boys working on the 3 Camaros that he owns. Tragedy struck in 2013 when Mckay’s son passed away, losing a battle with depression. This was tragic for Mckay and Julie. Mckay had so much love for his family, and to lose one of his sons took a heavy toll on him. Mckay was able to find peace in the mountains and spent many days and nights up at Panguitch Lake. He loved going to the cabin and spending time fishing with his family and friends.
Mckay was loved by so many people in Southern Utah. His loving personality and kind heart earned many people’s respect and admiration. He will be missed by so many people, and he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and a family who loves and misses him dearly.
As the family struggles to find peace at this time, we would like to thank those involved in Mckay’s life, whether it was through the business, church, or personal interactions. Please know that we are eternally grateful for the influence you have had in our lives and will continue to have as we grieve the loss of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend to so many.
Mckay is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Hafen; his son, Kyle Mckay Hafen; 2 of his nephews, Randy Hafen and Jeremy Hafen; brother-in-law, Russ Jones, and so many other ancestors who have gone on before.
Mckay is survived by his Wife, Julie Hafen, of Santa Clara; Jennifer (Tom) Hrdina of Las Vegas; Robert West of Las Vegas; Kally (Joel) Campbell of Ivins; Trace Hafen of Santa Clara; Claudia Venable of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Grandkids Thomas Hrdina and Tyler Hrdina, both of Las Vegas; Kalven Campbell, Kody Campbell, Julia Campbell, and Jazlyn Campbell of Ivins; Trenton West, Brooklyn West and Cayson West of Las Vegas; his mother, Pearl Hafen of Santa Clara; McKay’s siblings, Laveryl Porter, Joyce (LD) Winder, Doris (Maurice) Winder, Marlene Hafen, all of Santa Clara; Peggy (Wendell) Gubler of Ivins; Steven (Beverly) Hafen of Bristol, VA; Gary (Marie) Hafen; Carolyn (Ed) Musselman of Blackfoot, ID; Nadine Jones of Murfreesboro, TN.
