We’re focused on teaching students how to actually work in this industry.

At The Refinery Academy, students will learn far more than just treatment steps and state board prep.

We’re building a program centered around real-world confidence, professionalism, consultation skills, treatment planning, client communication, contraindications, and understanding why you’re doing what you’re doing behind the treatment bed.

Because the truth is, a license alone doesn’t automatically make someone prepared for the real world.

Knowing how to perform a facial is one thing.
Knowing how to assess skin, communicate with clients, build trust, recommend treatments appropriately, and carry yourself professionally in this industry is another.

That’s the difference we’re building here.

The lighting caught our attention too. But what’s really going to shine here is the talent walking through these doors.

Since launching this page, one question we’ve been asked repeatedly—by both aspiring students and already licensed estheticians—is,
“Will I graduate as a Master Esthetician or Medical Esthetician?” or “What do I need to do to become one?”

The answer is that neither “Master Esthetician” nor “Medical Esthetician” are recognized licensure categories in the state of Illinois.

Students who complete the program and pass state board requirements will graduate as Licensed Estheticians.

We’ve honestly been surprised by the amount of misinformation being shared surrounding esthetics licensing and titles in Illinois, which is why we strongly encourage students to verify information directly through IDFPR and review Illinois state licensing requirements for themselves rather than relying on industry terminology or online claims.

Since launching this page, one question we’ve been asked a lot is, “How long until we start learning treatments?”

Students will spend approximately 6-8 weeks building foundations before moving into hands-on treatment training.

At The Refinery Academy, we believe confidence in the treatment room starts long before you ever touch skin.

Performing a treatment is one thing. Truly understanding skin and the WHY behind what you’re doing is what separates great estheticians in this industry.

Skin science.
Contraindications.
Consultation.
Product knowledge.
Treatment planning.
Understanding how to properly assess skin before ever working on it.

Because understanding the WHY is what separates you from the rest and prepares you for a real career in this industry.

We’d like to show you your seat.

This is where it starts.
Our classroom. The foundation. The science. The understanding behind every treatment performed—and the why behind it.

At The Refinery Academy, we wanted our classroom to feel intentional and built for the way students actually learn.

Our classroom features an interactive SmartBoard system because esthetics education is highly visual.

Students won’t just sit and stare at a textbook. They’ll learn through:
• Interactive slides and guided lessons
• Real treatment videos and demonstrations
• Product and ingredient knowledge
• Step-by-step protocol instruction
• Detailed skin diagrams and anatomy breakdowns
• Visual learning designed to build confidence and retention

This is where students begin learning:
Layers of the skin.
Contraindications.
Skin disorders and conditions.
Acne. Aging. Pigmentation.
Barrier repair and skin function.
Consultation and skin analysis.
Sanitation and infection control.
Waxing theory. Lash and brow science.
Electric modalities.
Advanced treatment education and more.

Because confidence behind the treatment table starts in the classroom first.

Built by Estheticians.
For Future Estheticians.
Built on Experience. Driven by Integrity.

We’re already working toward the next phase.

As The Refinery Academy continues coming together, we’re also planning ahead for future program growth and expansion within the academy.

We are currently looking to connect with experienced estheticians, cosmetologists, nail technicians, and massage therapists who are interested in future educator opportunities as The Refinery Academy continues to grow.

Not currently licensed to teach, but interested in the education side of the industry? We still encourage experienced professionals to reach out. As the academy expands, we plan to help mentor and guide qualified professionals through the educator licensing process as well.

We’re being extremely intentional about who we grow with and the environment we continue building inside The Refinery Academy.

If you’re interested in connecting with us or learning more about future opportunities within the academy, we’d love to hear from you.

We are SO excited to finally show you our full student kits.

When we say our students will be prepared, we mean it.

We’ve lived this industry.
And we still live it.

We know what it takes to walk into this field feeling confident, capable, and already steps ahead — so we pulled out all the stops building a student kit designed to support real-world education and hands-on experience from day one.

So… let us introduce you to your student kit.

• Professional makeup kit + filled makeup bag
• Complete skincare collection featuring the products students will learn to use within our protocols
• Waxing + sugaring kit
• Professional-grade tools
• Ultrasonic skin prep device
• Magnification for real skin analysis
• Jade roller + gua sha stone
• Ice globes
• Body brushes
• Apron + spa wrap
• Bowls, tweezers, extractors & more

Every product, tool, and piece of equipment was chosen intentionally to reflect the level of professionalism, education, and experience we believe future estheticians deserve.

We didn’t build this academy to be average.
And we definitely didn’t build these kits to look like everybody else’s.

This is The Refinery Academy.

The last few weeks have been a blur of student kits, treatment tables, carts, desks, build-outs, long days and nights, cleaning, organizing, and nonstop preparation behind the scenes.

But what’s being built here is so much bigger than a classroom.

Katie brings 11 years of experience to this industry. Crystal brings 13.5 years. Together, that’s nearly 25 years of combined real-world experience behind the treatment table as licensed estheticians.

We’ve worked hands-on with real clients, real skin concerns, real treatment plans, and real results—and somewhere along the way, we both realized something: this industry doesn’t need more rushed, push-you-through education. It doesn’t need the fast track.

It needs stronger foundations.
Higher standards.
More confidence behind the treatment bed.
And more estheticians who know how to properly assess, adapt, and treat skin as an individual—not rely on the same routine for every client who walks through the door.

That’s exactly why The Refinery Academy was created.

To every future esthetician, licensed professional, salon owner, spa owner, and industry professional who has reached out, shared our posts, sent encouragement, or told us they believe in what we’re building—thank you. The support surrounding this academy has been unreal, and we’re incredibly grateful for it.

We’re building this with intention.
We’re building it from experience.
And we’re building it the way this industry deserves.

If becoming an esthetician is something you’re serious about… keep watching.
The Refinery Academy is coming.
