Just a few weeks ago, many of these little faces were walking through our doors for the very first time.

Today, they're learning classroom routines, making new friends, building confidence, and beginning to feel like this is their second home.

Childhood isn't rushed here. We believe relationships come before routines, because when children feel safe, they are free to learn. 💚

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾🐶💚

Today we’re introducing some very important members of our Schoolhouse family — our staff’s pups! 🐕❤️

They may not come to work with us, but they definitely hear ALL about your little ones when we get home! 😂

Give our four-legged family members some love in the comments! 🐾

🌿 WHY WE DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY: Protecting Childhood 🧸

Childhood isn’t something we’re trying to get through faster.

At The Big Green Schoolhouse, we believe there will be plenty of time for uniforms, bells, rigid schedules, desks, worksheets, and grown-up expectations.

Preschool doesn’t need to look like elementary school.

We don’t believe making things more structured, more academic, or more “school-like” at an earlier age means children are getting ahead.

We believe young children need time.

Time to play.
Time to wonder.
Time to get messy.
Time to move their bodies.
Time to make friends.
Time to figure things out.
Time to be little. 💚

Of course, our days have rhythm and routine. Children feel safe when they know what comes next. But there’s a difference between providing security and rushing children through their day.

We want our classrooms to feel like childhood—not a miniature version of what comes next.

Because we aren’t here to hurry them toward the next stage.

We’re here to make this stage matter.

That’s one of the reasons we do things differently. 🌱

🌿 WHAT ARE THEY LEARNING? 👶

It may look like they're just playing with dolls... but look a little closer. 👀

When our one-year-olds cuddle, carry, feed, rock, and care for their babies, they're practicing:

💚 Empathy & nurturing — beginning to understand caring for others
🗣️ Early language — hearing and using words like baby, bottle, eat, sleep, and hug
🧠 Imitation — recreating the everyday routines they see happening around them
🤲 Fine motor skills — holding bottles, picking up dolls, and manipulating little accessories
✨ Imagination — the very beginning stages of pretend play
🤍 Social-emotional development — exploring relationships, feelings, and familiar routines

At this age, play IS learning.

Something as simple as caring for a baby doll is helping little minds make sense of the big world around them. 🌿

🌊 INVITATIONS TO PLAY: Can You Make a Coral Reef? 🐟

Last month, Miss Lisa wrapped up her Ocean Theme with this fun invitation to play!

She set out Play-Doh and colorful noodles and gave her students one simple prompt:

“Can you make a coral reef?” 🐠

And then…the creativity took over! 💚 The children pushed, twisted, arranged, and experimented with the noodles to create their very own colorful coral reefs.

We love invitations to play because there isn’t one “right” way to complete them. Instead, children are given interesting materials and an idea—and then the freedom to explore, create, problem-solve, and make it their own.

Something that looks so simple is actually encouraging:
🖐 Fine motor development
🌊 Creativity & imagination
🐚 Sensory exploration
🐠 Problem-solving
💭 Independent thinking
🗣️ Conversation & new vocabulary

And the best part? They just think they’re playing. 💚

This is one of our favorite ways to bring learning to life at The Big Green Schoolhouse—giving children the materials, the invitation, and the time to see where their ideas take them.

Way to make learning FUN, Miss Lisa! 🌊🐠

🌿 TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: MISS DANIELLE 💜

Today we’re shining the spotlight on our wonderful Miss Danielle! 💚

Miss Danielle joined The Big Green Schoolhouse family in July 2025, beginning her journey with us as an Infant Teacher Assistant. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of watching her learn, grow, and truly find her place with our littlest learners. Today, she is our Lead Infant Teacher, and we couldn’t be more proud of her! 🥰

Miss Danielle has such a gentle, patient, and loving presence in the classroom. She understands that caring for infants is about so much more than bottles, diapers, and naps. It’s about building trust, responding to their individual needs, celebrating every tiny milestone, and creating a safe place where babies feel loved and secure.

She has a wonderful way of slowing down and meeting each baby right where they are. Whether she’s comforting a sleepy little one, encouraging a new skill, getting down on the floor to play, or celebrating those first smiles, crawls, and steps, Miss Danielle brings patience and warmth to every part of the day. 🤍

We’ve loved watching her confidence grow right alongside the babies she cares for, and we are so thankful to have her as part of our school family.

Miss Danielle, thank you for loving our tiniest Green Schoolhouse kiddos so well! 🌱💚

Help us show Miss Danielle some love in the comments! 👏🥰

🧩 PLAY IS SERIOUS LEARNING 🌿

It may look like they’re just playing… but look a little closer. 💚

When children build, stack, arrange, create, pretend, take apart, and start all over again, their brains are busy doing some pretty incredible work.

Open-ended play gives children the freedom to wonder:
✨ What happens if I try this?
✨ How can I make this work?
✨ What else could this become?

Through play, children are developing problem-solving skills, creativity, persistence, independence, and confidence.

There’s no single “right” way to use an open-ended toy—and that’s exactly what makes it so valuable. Children get to make the decisions, test their own ideas, work through challenges, and experience the pride of discovering, “I figured it out!”

At The Big Green Schoolhouse, we believe childhood doesn’t need to be rushed. Play isn’t time away from learning.

🌱 Play is how young children learn.

🌿 MEET OUR SCHOOL | Designed for Curiosity 🌷

Our classrooms are intentionally designed to spark curiosity—not overwhelm children.

Calm colors, cozy spaces, natural materials, and thoughtfully prepared invitations to play create an environment where children can slow down, explore, imagine, and create.

We don’t believe every wall needs to be filled or every toy needs to have one purpose. We leave room for something even better—children’s ideas. 🤍

Because sometimes the best learning happens when we simply give children the space to wonder.

🎉📚 It's Official... The First Day of School is HERE! 💚🍎

What a wonderful way to kick off a brand new school year at The Big Green Schoolhouse!

Our amazing teachers were greeted with our favorite tradition—the Treat Trolley! This year's theme was:

🧀 "Let's make things Easy Peasy Fun and Cheesy this school year!" 🧀

Filled with cheesy snacks, smiles, and a special gift for each teacher, it was our little way of saying thank you for the love, creativity, and heart they pour into our children every single day.

To our families—thank you for trusting us with your greatest treasures. We can't wait for a year full of learning, laughter, friendships, messy masterpieces, and unforgettable memories.

Here's to an Easy Peasy & Cheesy school year! 💚✨
