A SMALL discovery. A big project.
It began with a trip outside to collect natural materials. Inside a piece of wood, our 5th graders in Mrs. Consorte’s class discovered carpenter ants and larvae—and suddenly, a tiny discovery opened the door to BIG questions.
How do living things adapt to their environments?
How does structure support survival?
How do communities communicate and work together?
How can something so small have a BIG impact on an ecosystem?
And now, that discovery has grown into an interdisciplinary investigation. 🔎
Our scholars are using microscopes, observing ant farms, studying anatomy and ant architecture, researching ecosystems, and documenting and sharing their thinking in multiple ways.
This is Reggio-inspired, project-based learning at CIJS—where real experiences spark meaningful questions, deeper thinking, and authentic learning.
