We’ve had some exciting weeks here at the studio- two of my Primer students have completed their first books and are graduating to Primer Level 2! 📚🎹

This is a 🌟HUGE🌟 accomplishment. In a Primer 1 book, students are introduced to a whole new world of note reading, rhythms, finger movement, and dynamics. There’s a lot packed into these Primer months, and I am so proud of my students!

There are so many ways to practice note reading skills! 🎼

One of our current favorites here at the studio has been “Treasure Hunting” 👑 in our pieces. After identifying a note by flashcard, we find and place a sticker over each of the same note in our practice piece.

By doing so, note reading in our music gets easier, 🎶 we identify patterns based on the colors of stickers, 🔴🟡🔵 and it gives our brains a little break from the usual playing. 🧠

One of my very favorite things as a teacher is playing duets with my students. 🎹 Duets are a great way to train our musical ears 🎶👂🏻 to listen while we play. Keeping your own part steady while you hear both parts come together can be tricky, and I’m so proud of my students each time we play a duet! 👏🏻

It’s me, Megan, again! 👋🏻 Learn and Grow has been buzzing with lots of students, new and old! We’ve been hopping 🐰, clapping 👏🏻 , and wiggling 🕺🏻, all while learning valuable piano playing 🎹 and growing in our love of music!

As a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, I hold a BA Music with a focus in piano. 🤓 I’ve taught for years both in and out of the classroom, worked as a professional accompanist, and volunteer in the worship ministry of the local church.
