Today we would like to celebrate our own Matthew Wicke. Today we celebrate you on National Band Director Day. You have dedicated so many hours of your time to help each and every band student that walks in the door of STC schools these past 12 years. You came in to this program at a very pivotal moment. You grew the program very quickly in your first few years until Covid knocked you down. You didn't let that get the best of you and you got back up and you went back to work. The success that this program has had these past 12 years is a testament to the difference you are making in lives. You are shaping the next generation through music and everyday life lessons. You pour your heart and soul into your students and their success. This was shown especially this spring when you took 2 bands to State Band Festival. Many do not know the fact that the high school band that you took to State festival is a class that is taken at high school, but in two separate class hours. Those students don't get to practice together. They practice separately each day and to come together and perform together and not only do well, but get straight ones across the board, that is phenomenal. Not only are you a great teacher, but you are an even better role model to them. You are not perfect because nobody is, but you strive to teach those students to be the best versions of themselves, even if you don't always agree with them. You have prepared them well for this world. Thanks for all you have done and you continue to do. We celebrate you!.
