Thank you, John Stoffel.
Choir director, and mentor for students at George E. Thompson High School, St. Charles, Il. 1965-1994.
I graduated from high school in 1970 which makes me “of an age”. Those of you who are also, “of an age” know that reflecting on your life becomes a daily activity. As we wonder if we have made a difference in the world, we spend a lot of time remembering the people who made a big difference in ours.
I moved to Michigan in 1996 and even before that, I had pretty much lost touch with old high school classmates. Over the last few years, I have, joyfully, come back in contact with some of them and spend time online with one or two who talk at a deep level about who we are today in relation to those people who made a big, big difference in our lives.
One name that keeps rising to the surface is John Stoffel.
For me, John gave me a deep appreciation of good music. I recently wrote this to Melinda Oswalt Ramsden. “As I sit here thinking…..singing something like Mendelson or Mozart etc is, to me, like sitting next to the ocean. I feel like I’m part of this timeless universe where so many other souls have come to be nurtured.” I feel closest to God or “the universe” when I sing or listen to great music.
Thank you, John Stoffel.
