I was pleasantly surprised to see this communication board on the playground at a local state park! 😍

A communication board is a board made up of various symbols, pictures, or photographs that help a person express their feelings, needs, wants, and ideas. 

This board gives children an opportunity to communicate with each other when they are unable to do so verbally. 

There was also a Braille panel included on this playground! 🙌🏻

I'm excited to see this ADA inclusive playground and hope to see more in the future! Everyone deserves a chance to communicate with their peers. ❤️

I had to make lots of changes and spent more time than I would care to admit, but it was fun! 🤪🎉

I always feel like the crazy bag lady as I'm traveling around to my daycares and preschools so the bag was a must. And I wanted to include a box with my girls because I am also juggling being a homeschool mom!

Fifth year of homeschool is in the books! 🥳 Today was our last day of first grade and fourth grade and I am so proud of my girls and for all of the hard work they did this year. 👏🏻

We joined a homeschool co-op and participated in a science fair where my oldest won "best presentation." She definitely gets that from her daddy! There was also lots of learning at home, field trips, library visits, play dates, art projects, book reading, writing, and plenty of outside time. ☀️ 

I can't get over how much they have learned and I am so glad I get to learn along side of them and be their teacher. ❤️ 

Now these two can enjoy their summer and we will start back in August with second and fifth grade! How is that even possible?! 😭

Any other SLPs seeing kids this summer? 🙋🏻‍♀️ Here are some fun ways that I keep my kids engaged during my summer speech sessions:

🐚 I love using different manipulatives like seashells, octopus finger tentacles, sensory bins, playdoh, pom poms, and the magic wand.

🐚 I also make sure to have a variety of materials on hand! I have coloring sheets, smash mats, flashcards, and bingo games. We can target tons of goals with these!

I love using mini erasers in speech. Using them with flashcards makes therapy that much more fun! 🎉

Behind every small business there is a family. This is my little family. I started my journey in creating speech and language resources eight years ago, just after my oldest daughter turned one!

I remember sitting in our home office while she was napping one day in September 2015 and creating that first resource for Sweet Peas and Pigtails (my TpT store is actually named after her). I never would have imagined it would have turned into an actual business and I would go on to create 189 more resources, write blogs, and make so many connections and friendships.
