Congratulations to R.J. Murray Middle School’s Concert and Symphonic Bands on their fantastic performances at MPA! Our Concert Band earned STRAIGHT EXCELLENT scores and Symphonic Band earned OVERALL SUPERIOR scores! We are so proud!

This was SJCCA Band’s first time hosting the Florida Bandmasters Association’s District 21 Middle and Jr. High Concert Band MPA (Music Perfomance Assessment) at RJMMS! Over the course of 3 days, we hosted 28 Middle and Jr. High School bands from St. Johns, Flagler, Putnum, and Clay Counties!

The success of this event was made possible through the support of our school administrators, custodians, RJMMS band director Ms. Kromhout, SAHS band director Mr. Peters, RJMMS chorus teacher Ms. Shore (thanks for loaning your classroom to use as the MPA Office), our Saint Augustine Concert Band musician volunteers, Band Boosters, and parent, grandparent, and student volunteers from RJMMS and SAHS! From planning to setting the stage, preparing MPA event spaces, welcoming and directing school bands upon arrival, serving as band guides, coordinating meals for MPA judges and FBA district officers, helping with concessions sales, and cleaning up after the 3-day event, hosting Band MPA was a huge team effort! Thanks to everyone who stepped up and donated your time to help us host the 2025-26 FBA District 21 Concert Band MPA at RJMMS! We appreciate you!!!

One of the most rewarding parts of hosting MPA was hearing students, both past and present, share how much fun they had volunteering and to witness these kids experience the great feeling of giving back! Our band students walked away feeling proud of their performances on stage and in the sight-reading room, but also feeling proud of themselves and our school! Thank you, Bulldogs Band!

SJCCA Band at Murray Middle School is hosting the Florida Bandmasters Association Middle School Concert Band MPA (Music Performance Assessment) for District 21 on March 5-7 and we need as many volunteers as possible to help with this event!

Tomorrow (Tuesday, February 17), our Symphonic Band will participate in the University of North Florida’s Wind Band Workshop. After warming up, students will perfom their three MPA songs in UNF’s Lazzarra Performance Hall before an audience and panel of guest clinicicans, all of whom are music professors from various universities, who will critique their performance and provide a professional clinic afterward.

Students will have the opportunity to tour UNF’s campus, enjoy a buffet meal in the UNF dining hall, and spend the rest of the afternoon watching other ensembles perform. We’re thrilled our students will have the opportunity to participate in this event again this year!

Parents of Symohonic Band students, please make sure your student arrives to school in concert black with their required embroidered SJCCA Band uniform shirt with black pants, black socks, and black dress shoes.

If you plan to attend as a chaperone and will be riding the bus, please arrive to RJMMS at 10 AM, sign in at the front office, and head to the band room. Students will load the bus from 10:30-10:45 and arrive to UNF between 11:30-11:45 to warm-up before performing at 12:30. If you plan to meet us at UNF, note that tthe event is free but there is a $5 parking charge. Parents may accompany students for the warmup, watch them perform, and watch the clinic afterward. Students will return to RJMMS between 5:45-6 PM. Keep an eye out for updates via CutTime.
